We lost all of the Orp chicks. They made it through the night just fine, and were ok when my husband checked on them at 8. When I checked again at 10, they were all gone. I know that this can happen but I feel really rotten about it. Poor little babies.

Kingman is supposed to get down to 17 tonight BUT since I'm closer to Hackberry I will see closer to 15 . I have a drop light under a 5 gallon bucket over my outside water spouts . It's suprising how much heat a light bulb will generate . NOT the new squiggley ones but an old fashioned round 40 W type . If cold weather affects your car at starting consider a light bulb laying right on top of the battery . Closing the hood as much as possible with a blanket on top helps a bunch . A warm battery is a happy battery . With this comes a logic that it might help with chicken coops also .

Thank you all so much for the vacation suggestions. I knew I was asking at the right place.

STAR--The new property sounds great! You sound so much like me about 20 years ago. I am praying for you! Keep us posted!

As much as I'd like to say yes, I think that we're going to go without a roo in the interest of keeping the neighbors happy. If you end up with any pet quality pullets, I'd be happy to take one, though.

I don't know *what* happened. For some reason they weren't huddled near the heat lamp. The brooder was well covered, but as windy as it was, its possible that a draft got to them.
