@mclevinson thanks..I'm so glad i was able to find an Arizona thread.....although it could be years before I can go forth with this venture (i have monster dogs), I'd like to know what I'd be in for before diving in. That is, if I can even have them with my HOA rules.

ThinkinBoutChickensInAz, Hello from a fellow Tucsonan and

We're glad you joined us!

The heat is the toughest challenge to chickens in low elevations in southern AZ. You can check out my BYC page (link there on the left side) and see what I did for my chickens.

TT! :

Mahonri, how was your dental appointment? I just had a wisdom tooth pulled.

Had a back crown replaced. I love it.

Thinkingboutchickens We have Neo Mastiffs they get along fine with Our chickens You just have to be on top of them from the beginning. Have a great adventure!!

Welcome to the group Thinkingaboutchickens! We have a very 'sissy' dog. But she will chase them if she gets a chance. I don't know what she would do if she caught one. She recently got her butt kicked by a rooster and she has avoided them since.

@Gallo del Cielo ---- WOW, gorgeous coop creation. Unfortunately my space along back fence is taken (2 raised planting beds , a pond and a citrus tree). Also my existing furmonsters would have a field day shredding the wire. Another downside is for sure I can't have anything sticking over the fence, to be seen from the street <this much i do know>
But it gave me a lot of ideas.

@mahalo4 and NoSkiveez ----Unfortunately the existing furkids have already proven they are not bird safe. They've gone after my finches, lovebirds when I kept them, button quail and my quaker. That's why I'm thinking this will be a down the road project. When I can start fresh with introducing a new pup to chickens....when the time does come that is. So in the meantime, I'm spending the time learning about keeping chickens, checking out coop designs, and so on. I figured I'd deal with the HOA when the time comes, who knows between now and then what the rules will be.

Hoping to learn a lot by everyone else's experiences....what folks would do differently if they were starting over again, what tips & tricks they've picked up to cut costs by making their own gear. Looking forward to finding pics of everyone's coops & runs.
