Arizona Chickens

I wonder what my husband would say if there was an emu in the backyard one day. Just showed up, ya know? Think he'd suspect?

Obviously you need to call it to HIS attention " HUBBY! What is this bird? WHERE did it come from? [hands on hip and give him the accusing "eye"]... Did you go out and buy me a "present"?... What are we going to do with it?... Well, I guess we need to build a new pen for the poor baby..."

Completely override and refuse to believe any of his protests, and throw in a few "THANK YOU"s for good measure.

edited to add: and never admit that you know what it is...at least not until it is blatently obvious. Keep asking him. "Honey, what kind of chicken IS this? It is getting HUGE! And ...it looks different."

TT! :

Wait a minute, that is actually made out of emus?

What is baby oil made out of?

TT, you crack me up. I have missed your posts. Where have you been lately?

Cluckin', LOVE the coop! It is way more official and pretty than mine. And I have nowhere near enough experience to tell much about your juvies, but the #2 has a roo looking tail. I would pay more attention to behavior. Our polish was definitely crowing by 3 months.

Sonoran, you are BRILLIANT!!! I think I may have to try that one.

Thanks! I'm studying like mad for my local anesthesia exam. Basically so I can give injections to my patients if they need it. The test is this week! Then, I'll have loads of spare time to post again.

There is a clinical portion to the test, and I get to use my husband as a patient. I'm going to get a running start, stick the needle in him, and scream "THIS IS FOR NOT TAKING OUT THE TRASH"

LareePQG: HATCH THE EMU! Also, I think I'll have 5 project chickens hatching in a week! 2 of the eggs were either not fertile or quit early, and I just candled again and another 2 don't look like they are nearly as developed as the others. I think they quit. 5 is a good number!

Good luck on the exam!

Congrats on your eggs!

I was wondering how they were doing, and I am inspired to try to get one of my ladies to go broody. Maybe if I pile some fake eggs into one of the boxes, and keep putting her in...

I think the AZ thread is now one of the largest!

I can keep up with you folks.... but I try.

My girls have really started laying! YAY!!

I'm going to put up another dozen Ams eggs for sale... a two day auction.

I've noticed my other roo is active too.

Pastrymama: Congrats on your hatched chicks!

A question about your Delawares: are they noisy? My NH red has been obnoxiously loud the past couple of weeks, and I don't know if my neighbors could take more loud squawkers.
