Oh, Mandy, that stinks!!! I'm sorry about that. It is just part of it, but I still hate it. We thought one of ours was a goner about a week and a half ago, but we ended up finding her. I hope you find yours, too.

Hello! Was hoping to find some black and white hens (love the look of the silver laced wyanadottes). I currently have 3 EE hens about 4 months old. Does anyone have any experience with what breeds fair the best in the heat and where to purchase? I live in NE mesa.

Our hens are still young, and we are new to this too

From what I've read it seems open air coops are the way to go, and added shade is good, but the air flow is really important too.
Ours is an open air coop and we are planning on either putting a roll up shade on the fence, and then pulling it across the run over the coop in the summer. Or we might do a roll down shade from the roof, haven't decided yet!

Turkeybreeder - Sorry to hear about your grandmother. I hope she recovers quickly. Our Tata had Parkinsons and he fell down outside and broke his leg, hip, ribs and arm. It was a long hard recovery but in time he was up and walking. When it first happened, the said he was inoperable. I believe prayer pulled him thru tough times.

Pastrymama - Those are cute chicks. They look like they are wearing black eye liner. I once got a "mystery" chick and I never figured it out. It was super small and was super ugly. We named her Vulture because she looked like one. Mahalo got my other mystery chick. I think it was a Partridge Rock.

I sent the remaining quail (Bobwhites) home with the guy who bought the eggs I hatched. I was supposed to split the hatch with him, but i didn't want any. Life without quail is so much easier. And besides, I think quail are stinky!
