. This is so true. We started out with 3 hens. Now we have 2 coops and plans to build a third, though we might as well build the 4th while we are at it. I never thought we would have one big coop just for bantams!!

How much space/time outside is needed to qualify for free ranging??

LOL we fenced off most of our side yard and they are out almost all day. I did trim their wings so they can't fly over the fence. If you do something like this you will need "poop" shoes for the side yard though

I think we made it a month or so before we built the Serama coop.

Just build more coops. Trust me, you will need them. I started out with just 5 (3 amerucana/EE, 2 rirs) and I went back the next day for a leghorn. 2 weeks later Chrystal had SLW and I got 4 of those, then two weeks later I got 5 Silkies.

Bethany I will be hatching 3 of the 4, Olive Eggers from Wynette due April 23rd - Easter eggers from Mahonri & French Black Copper Marans from mahonri/ The EE & Maran are due on Wednasday though but I dont know how to sex them, if You want 1 of each I have a special BYC price ask Nurseshelly!!

Mahalo- Sounds great!!! Those are my top 3 choices, so if I can't find a 4th I want, thats just fine.

I will PM you! Is NurseShelley your wife...or she just purchased from you before?

lol

We have our side yard fenced off, so it could be a possibility, BUT we also have our 3 square feet gardening planter boxes in there. So they probably couldn't free range all year, only between planting seasons. Unless we figure out a way to protect the plants...maybe chicken wire cages over the tops of the planters? LOL. Hmmm, possibilities...

I just don't know what we'd DO with 35 eggs a WEEK!!! Lots of Angel Food Cake??? That was the main reason for limiting the chickens. Even 28 eggs a week is pushing it...we'll probably give away a dozen or two every month.

Nurseshelley is a Friend & Yes She has "purchased" from us before!!
