I am humbled, thanks and we really enjoyed meeting you. It's great putting a face with a name. Just thought I would post a Pic so all could see yours and Laree's generosity! Can anyone guess what they are? First one who guesses "eggs" has to go to her room and take a nap!

I need to go take a nap...LOL

I probably could even tell you the kinds of chickens that those eggs came from too....so I really need to take a nap

I finely get to rest a bit today, this morning was 2 brothers, one of their friends, 5 children and a set of grandparents...all up visiting to cut up the cow that we butchered two weeks ago. Then one of my friends stopped by for a couple of hours. I got to be tour director, cow milker, chicken expert, duck expert, chicken selling person....it was fun but I am all talked out.

So instead of taking a nap this late in the day....I will take care of some animals, feed the cow, play on the computer and sell a few ducks. Not a bad end of a Sunday.

We buy our lavender plants at Harlow Gardens. We just had to replace the ones we've had growing for a couple of years - they were killed off by the massive freeze in February. Harlow tends to have somewhat higher prices but they've also got higher quality plants.

We've never had trouble with scorpions (knock on wood.) Spiders, on the other hand... they're flippin' everywhere. Hopefully the chickens will keep the lower lying ones in check.

Had to go stop by and grab a chick waterer this afternoon. The feed store seems to have done something to our car, because it was making a chirping noise all the way home. Sounded suspiciously like a Buff Orpington chick. Oops. That's five.

Remember to take your assistant with you when you go by the feed store!

I never got a response from anyone here about vaccination. I've decided that I'm going to vaccinate against Marek's, I just need to find a local source tomorrow or see if it can be ordered online. I understand that it only comes in very large quantities so I would be quite willing to share it with anyone in the Tucson area that needs it. I just have to have it by this coming Sat.

mclevinson, do I understand you have your first eggs? Congratulations!

azpenguin, nice assistant! You must be in Tucson too; we love Harlow Gardens. I have to stay away from that place, I'd be broke after a few visits. I've never seen a scorpion in town here!

Desertrat011, I guess those Phoenix GHOs aren't all that unseen!

Mahonri how good are You at telling what sex the W/BWA's are would love to pick Your brain how about We post some pics?

I need some advice please:

Would a couple of you more experienced cheeper-keepers please answer a couple of questions for me about the Marek's vaccine?

It looks like the vaccine comes in 2 parts: the freeze-dried vaccine and the diluent. Would it be possible to split the dried vaccine in half by weight (before it is mixed)? I have access to a microbalance, so I am pretty certain that I can weigh out the correct amount, but do you think this would be possible? I have no idea how fine the dried vaccine is, or what volume it has. I am guessing that it it is very fine, and very small, but I wanted to ask just in case. Gallo and I will be vaccinating our new chicks, but it will happen about 5 days apart so there is no way to share the mixed vaccine. It would be nice to split the cost if we can.

Do feed stores typically carry the vaccine? I will call around tomorrow, but it is Sunday night and I am impatient.

Gallo - perhaps we could at least split the shipping cost and order 2 vials if they have to be shipped?

Thanks!
