Arizona Chickens

His crow will not be as loud as a larger bird, but it will be higher pitched. IMO, the high-pitched crows are far more annoying than the mellow low crow of a large fowl.

Welcome to the obsession urbanchickmama! I'm in midtown Tucson, no turkeys or ducks, but they might be fun. Do they count towards the limit?

. Happens on my cell sometimes. We have a Serama roo and his crow is not that loud. We keep him in the house at night to avoid the 6:30am crowing outside. We usually put him back out at 9am. So far nobody has complained.

Lost a BBL polish to the heat today.... and it only hit 103... but my coop has less shade this year.

I just need to start selling chickens en mass I guess.

Hey Meg,
The wiggly thing / water snake is frI'm Albertsons for something like .99. I'm sure any drug store will have them in the toy section too

I'll look! Thank you.

Mahonri,

We had a hatch this morning on day 22. The egg pipped yesterday sometime between 9:30am-noon, made ZERO progress by 6 pm but i could hear it chirping, I made the hole a tiny bit bigger by 8pm and left it alone. At 10pm, still no progress, but tons of chirpping. Gut said, "Leave it alone." I also gave her 2 brand new russian orloffs after dark in case no hatch since there were only two eggs. I woke at 4:30am today and the amerucana was OUT!!!!! She looked beat, broody looked content, accepted newly adopted chicks from Russia, all was well. Nothing from egg number 2, but maybe a funny smell

Checked on them frequently, all was fine until noonish. I hear chick screams and she is trying to kill the little muffed bearded amerucana. She broke the chick's beak, her little chick face was bloody and I took her out quickly and set up a brooder in the house. Very strange that she didn't accept the chick she hatched. The chick is still alive, sleeping on DH's tummy because she is lonely. The other egg never pipped, nada, smells. I pulled it tonight. Out of 3 hatches I have done with a broody, I have never seen this. And always 100% hatches too. very sad. i hope she pulls thru. i will spare you a pic of her, but she/he is yellow, muffed and bearded.

Mahonri, I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I lost one a couple of days ago, started spasming (sp) all of a sudden, and died. I can only assume it was heat related. I think these two guys and again I'm assuming they are guys, came from your brood. They look like the cross beak you gave me.

Oh thats too bad. I worry about the heat. Coop and run have shade and good ventilation. I put a sheet of reflective foam between the coop and wall. I'm keeping a wet spot for them to sit on and the have some grass. Hope it's enough now that they are all laying. I have less shade than you do.
