Arizona Chickens

She's just in molt, and maybe had a brief bout of broodiness. You should see my turkey hen. She's almost naked!

been a long time coming....

As far as our bald frizzle, whose name is Snowflake (although I'm not sure that name is so fitting anymore!!) I am hoping it's just a bad molt.

Poor nudie flasher chicken......

I would expect that he is just having a bad molt. Make sure he is not in the sun at all (sunburn), and feed him extra high proteins, sunflower and safflower seeds (preferably at night when it is cooler as they tend to be a hotter food). Barley is supposed to help grow wider feathers, so you may want to give him barley as well.

Are you certain that he is a frizzle and not a curley (two copies of the frizzle gene)?

Been pounding staples since 7:00 this morning. I had to stop because I ran out. All three layers of chicken wire are attached, but I still need to staple a bunch of it. So, it's off to the hardware store for more staples, and also welded wire and a couple of latches. Getting closer... still have work to do but the birds are in the coop!

Congrats, I have some good news. My girls are getting better but they are still sick. I've posted an update at https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=512740&p=1

I
need some advice on what to do next.

Glad today will be the last of triple digits for about a week. Working on a car, finishing a coop and garden, while nursing Daisy and the other girls back to health has drained me.

I responded on your other thread.

During the really hot parts of summer I shovel dirt into dikes around the edge of runs and flood the run with water during the heat of the day. The chickens love it cause they get cooled of while walking through the water. Just make sure they have a shaded dry area.
