Arizona Chickens

Scott and his son came up from Marana today. Between early AM and 8AM, I got the fan on the AC unit going. I took them into my coop so they could feel the difference... I really need to caulk some areas of the coop so there isn't as much ventilation.
Sent them home with some eggs, an EE roo and 3 mystery chicks ... he'll end up finding out if they are roos or pullets, 2 EEs and 1 Icelandic. His son is a great kid and had everything ready for the birds ride back to Marana with water and feed and all... I was impressed.
ETA... forgot to mention, I'm going to have Scott build me an incubator as he's a genius with the one he built. Kinda like a homemade sportsman. I think I'll call it the "Scottsman!"
It was just over 107 out there at about 3PM(official high was 108).. it's down to 105 now so hopefully it won't be as warm tomorrow. Forecast says 101 tomorrow and under a 100 for the next five days after that. We'll see. Wish we were like Easter NM and getting all of that rain.

OK, I did say I'd post pictures, and I finally nabbed the card reader.
I got all the chicken wire finished on the coop today. The coop and run is 7 feet high, and the wire is in 3' wide rolls, so there's three layers of wire wrapped around it. The area of the whole contraption is 8x8, and so there's three runs of wire across the top. Tomorrow I'm going to put welded wire around the bottom three feet. It won't be an impenetrable fortress, but it should be sufficient for around here.
This is where we were at a couple of weeks ago. Coop framed out:
Henhouse with the doors roughed in and the roost set in place:
Meanwhile, we had to run the chicks while we cleaned the brooder box. Little Dulce was actually herding the chickens

Fast forward to today. It's actually looking like a coop!
The east wall is open for airflow, so it works in tandem with the front door (covered in hardware cloth) and the open rafters. There's hardware cloth over the side:
The back doors are closed in this pic, but they both open out, providing easy access (and cleaning!) for the entire henhouse:
Little herder has checked and approved:
We'll see if we need more ventilation. Shade on the south and west sides as well as above is crucial in our heat, and it actually wasn't bad in the henhouse when it was 102 out this afternoon. If need be, I can put in more windows, but the hens will let us know. I'm sure we'll be out there a bunch of times tonight checking on the birds. The coop isn't done yet. The ramp is only a temporary one, and I've got painting and trim work to do as well as additional security work. But it feels great to finally get somewhere with this thing.

She is still laying and tries to sit on eggs a couple of times throughout the day, which is sad/silly to watch.
I am still hoping its a molt, but my gut is saying probably not......
