Lost a marans to the heat today. She is one of the original girls that I hatched out New Years Day 2010 so she was just exactly 18 months old. She was a great layer that laid large spotted eggs.

I feel badly but, I guess that's chicken raising in AZ... I hope I don't lose anymore.

I'm sorry to hear that Mahonri, it is ridiculously hot. Do you think your remaining birds are the tough ones? I mean, at some point, you'll stop losing them to heat, right?

Gahhh... don't think we have the room. Those are cute birds too. We've got two roosters (one of which we discovered was a roo just this morning.) A third might lead to major territorial issues.

I heard on the radio that it reached 118. ugh. Now it looks and sort of acts like a monsoon storm may be rolling in. Put all the young ones in the garage with the evap running.
