OK so the word from the control tower (read: wife) is I have to get a few of the honey-dews finished before the "great chicken adventure" begins.

Searching through the BYC breed index I seemed to have setteled on crevecoeurs. All the right docility characteristics, heat tollerant, medium production and very cool looking birds!

However the nice lady at Ideal Poultry said all white egg layers are "flighty/skittish" and I'm looking for birds with which our grand children can calmly/safely play.

2 questions:

1. Does any one have any experience with this breed?

2. If I purchased a dozen striaght run birds, would anyone be interested in the roos? I'm not really interested in breeding them, just playing and laying

I can't make it until next week

but told Aurorarose that I would like some of her black and blue-wheaten Ameraucanas. If anybody from the West Valley goes there (Morristown, Wittman, Congress?) maybe my chickens could hitch a ride???

I could pick them up late on Thursday evening or any time Friday through Sunday (have construction going on, can't leave for longer than an hour or so).

Those crevecours are crazy looking! I've never seen them. I like their v-shaped combs! Can't you get all Pullets so that you don't have to worry about roosters? I usually only order straight run on bantams, because they never sell them sexed.
