DUDE!!! Save yourself! LOG OFF NOW and take her shopping IMMEDIATELY. Your chicken project will be delayed 10X proportionately to the amount of times she hears the words "chicken, chicks, incubation, hatching or coop". Take a deep cleansing breath and take it one hour at a time.

Anne,

mclevinson uses the DLM and we (control tower & I) couldn't smell anything! I too have a hyper-sensitive beak, cannot stand any colognes and only 1 perfume on the planet. Meg's set up was clean and awesome!

(Smiles modestly, blushing just a teensy bit)

Oh man, on vacation, dreaming about chickens and posting on byc. You got it bad. I guess the writing was on the wall once mclevinson got to you.

Heh heh heh. Mike, better stop by for a bar of handmade cold process soap for Control Tower. Stop by Trader Joes on the way home and get some flowers too. She'll be impressed by how frugal you are.

Hey, does anyone have a small coop or cage or something I can put my little pullets in (4 of 'em)? Of course, I'm willing to pay 'ya! They are outgrowing their brooder and I have to clean it way to often! I'm about ready to pop (with new baby!) and I know my wonderful, but not-into-cleaning poo husband isn't going to do the job I do. Plus he'll be a little busier, too! Oh! It's my oldest's (is that DS#1 in computer talk?) 6th birthday today!

OK, I'm tired, I was up at 4:45AM and on my way up the mountain. Got home by 6:10AM (I start at 32nd & Lincoln) It's dark now at 4:45AM... a month ago it was light at that time.

Then I asked DS#5 to go out and mow the lawn. Well he got half of it mowed and the mower quit and he couldn't get it started. He'd let the oil get too low. I filled it properly, got it going and then DW had PLANS for me. 6 hours and almost heat exhaustion later, I've had my lunch and I'm going to take a nap. But the front yard looks good.. good as it can when it's 108 degrees out there. I can't wait to go back to the office tomorrow and Friday where I can work in the cool The pool felt wonderful today after all the work, trimming, weeding, etc.....

I'm going to make #5 clean and mop the big coop tomorrow. He's not going to be happy, but it's good for him.

So, if I'm planning for just eggs (for now), then I don't really want a "broody hen", right?

Since I'm asking questions (again!), could someone explain why I might care what "comb type" my (future) hens have? I'm seeing that option on the Breed Search and I don't know why I would care one way or the other.

Thanks!

Anne.

If you live in a cold winter area, single combs are more likely to get frostbitten than are rose or pea combs. In a warm climate, single combs help the birds get rid of heat. Pea comb is closely linked to the blue egg gene. Some people like or dislike the looks of certain kinds of combs.

Then there is the very unusual buttercup comb. Or the v-shape comb of the crevecours.

Thanks! They are considerably cheaper than where I would have gone (AZ Feed on Ruthruff and I10). Even considering the drive it is well worth it!

Pet Club in west Mesa at Country Club and 1st Street (just south of Main) has large bags of DE and also sells about a gallon container of it too. Don't remember how much since I got my small container a couple of months ago. It is the right kind (food grade).

Broadway Feeds in Mesa has 50 lb bags of food grade DE also.
