Arizona Chickens

45. Northern Arizona houses the world's No. 1 Anthrax research lab.

It is true! My husband worked there. He was on the antrhax team (they also study other things there, like the bubonic plague)

TT! :

I'm procrastinating. The sooner I go to bed, the sooner it is tomorrow. I don't want to go to work tomorrow.

Get to bed... the tartar will always be there and your nimble hands and instruments will rid all the mouths of it. I did a four unit bridge today... I need to do a couple of those every week. I have one set up for next month.

Even though I was surprised.. (I can't keep up with this thread, it goes too fast) Meg's beautiful girls will be my new olive egger crew. They are in with the BCM roo and 3 BCM hens in a 4X10 pen.

I won't be getting any more eggs hatched until at least October... hopefully I'll have more laying by then.
Between now and then I think I'll be keeping my SLW, one light Brahama and one buff, my NH red and selling my RIR, one of my buff brahmas, my blue EE and my old PW leghorn. That or they'll all get to know the farm in Mesa or my cousins farm in far west Phoenix.

I'm tired... watched Avatar with the kids... I don't know why we keep that movie around, it's so violent, but I suppose it is an escape to a fantasy world. By the end of the week we should know where DS#3 is going to spend the next two years of his life.

I have resorted to getting an adaptor for the cig lighter in my minivan and setting the incubator in the car for a few hours when the powers was out!

I actually went and got a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) which is basically a battery backup with a built in converter. YOU HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL WITH CONVERTERS! Power went out at the end of July and I was all happy because my incubator was hooked up to the UPS. After an hour or so I went and checked anyway. I was really %*& to find that my incubator was at 130°+. Those were Mahonri's eggs, 2 days before hatch. All cooked

.
I called the UPS manufacturer and they were very helpful. Apparently the sine wave is not the same from an AC powersupply as it is from a DC. It has to be pure sine wave input. The simulated sine wave input of a standard UPS causes erratic behavior of heating elements (as proven).

Live is an experiment. Stuff like this happens

. As long as I follow McLevs bottom line I'll be fine

. BTW this incident was 3 days after the European chickens hatched! I should consider myself very lucky!
