Arizona Chickens

OK Folks, it's 1AM almost finished the floor in the second bedroom. Wrap it up tomorrow and grout the living / dining room, couple of cabinets & baseboard molding & call it good.

I read all the posts, goats, ducks, lost chickens and okra.

Too tired for jokes - Night all...

Hi to all the AZ Chicken Owners,

I'm so excited to see some other desert dwellers on here. I personally am an expectant chicken mom, the are expected to ship this week.

We ordered 14 from mypetchicken.com. The brooder is finished but the coops isn't yet. I'm looking forward to chating with you all.

Welcome to all the newbies! We broke down last night and purchased eggs form the store. My kids were so excited to look at white shelled eggs again.

Interesting to compare the yolks from backyard to grocery store.

I finally got hit too by bad chicken luck. A band of coyotes decided to dig under the fence on my rooster coop last night. When I went to bed I had 16. Now I have three (two of which were culls waiting for the grill)

At least all the chickens are ok and the Europeans are still locked up in the house.
I lost the TJ rooster and my breeding roosters (Cubalayas, Blue Adalusians, Anconas, and Minorcas). Anybody have any spares of those roosters?

Okra is so easy! Just water it and make sure you pick it everyday. Pick pods about three inches long. It will die when it freezes so let one of the pods get gigantic and dry out to save seeds from for next year. Give it full sun.
My two favorites are grilled with a little olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper. Just put them whole on the grill. And, pickled. Since you only have one plant, you could just put a jar of pickle brine in the fridge and put some pods in it for refridgerator pickles, you won't get enough to can.
