Mikey: You MUST, MUST, MUST post pics! I have never had chicks. Too much work me thinks.

My sister uses hay and likes it OK but if you do the deep layer method I think pine works better.
My sister cleans hers out every week, I leave mine for 6 months or more. I just keep adding to it when it breaks down.

I plan on using DLM so I guess Pine it is.

I'm guessing it's one of a pair of giant dice she's making for her backyard Mega-Yahtzee game. I wonder what she'll use for the dice shaking container?

And here I was thinking practical thoughts...a mega-gi-normous automatic watering system for the birdlets.

Oh, you guys had such great guesses! It's just a really big rain barrel

. I was really proud of it until I read all your ideas! Now it's seems so boring. I should have turned it into an aquaponics tank so I can raise fish in my own backyard. And a mega-gi-normous automatic watering system would be awesome! MikeyD has lots of nipples, right? And really, who wouldn't want a Mega-Yahtzee game for the backyard? I mean come on...that just fun thinking about. You don't even need a shaker, paint numbers on the sides, stuff someone in the hole, and have them try to get out. Whatever number is up when they land is it.

But noooooo...I just had to go and make it a dumb old boring everyday rain barrel.

I think I should get more

Personally I prefer a long-handled hammer to needle nose pliers. Much less precision needed

I have a long handled propane weed burner. Nuff said.

Oooo! I am in awe! And you have found the power gardening tool necessary for your Meg Moringaseed costume!
