Hey, it's gotta be less expensive than welders and supplies.

But I guess that's your living. My husband's welder cost way more than my coop. What does she like to do?

Boy-O-boy Tight, I wish I had a good answer for that one!

She is either working at school or working at home. I keep encouraging a hobby but to no avail. She joins me with the things I like doing ('cept welding) dirt-biking, shooting etc... She does like camping but that too is a family activity.

Toughie to shop for also. Doesn't like knick-knacks, or jewelry or foo foo stuff.

We get along famously though.

She actually doesn't mind all that is going on now. She is helping like a trooper!

Maybe one of Y'all can get her interested in something...???

Does she like sewing or baking or gardening or music or theater or reading? If you gave her a visa gift card for $50, what store would she likely go to, and what would she likely spend it on? What kind of gifts does she give to women friends and relatives?

Gallo, there is no way your château fort chicken house was cheap. My husband would murder me if I spent that much building a coop. Otherwise I would copy you.

https://www.backyardchickens.com/web/viewblog.php?id=54950 Does anyone know roughly how much would something like this cost? I might even have the hardware cloth (assuming I can deconstruct the current chicken coop).

No idea on cost, but it sure looks like it would be difficult to clean the enclosed coop. Also, in our summers a coop that is so enclosed would not do good things for them.

Oooh I squinted at the text and managed to find a line that says, "It was very affordable I think we spent about $400.00 to $475.00. I don't have the exact figures. "

Yay!

We are around $400 now. With the insulation and ceiling materials it should be up to $500. Yikes!

I've been known to help out with coop services...

Prolly should finish mine first though

Ya Mikey,
Prolly should.

It's looking great ! Looks like you had some great help over the weekend! Loved all the pics! I can't believe how much the chicks have grown!

I've been all week working on my Aviary getting it ready for the quail.
I'm going with cheaper roofing material though.

And minimal assembly required. lol...
Going to try and landscape it some too. It's hard finding the right plants though, that aren't poisonous!

Grape vines, passion fruit vines, duranta, roses or pyracantha or bouganvillia if you don't mind thorns (OUCH!), peas, beans, sweet peas, sunflowers, lavender, rosemary, sage, citrus, basil, ...

Every time I go for a small, simple project it goes nuts.

Mikey: "Honey, we'll just use the panels from Meg-Moringa-Seed, tack them together and we're done!"

Sure...

My husband's favorite attaching mechanisms. . .lag bolts! I tease him every time we go to hang something. "Hey sweetie, do you want a lag bolt for that picture frame?"

of course, wood can be cut silly! I bet Gallo even has something to cut it with.
In the future, if you're doing a project that requires buying wood, you can actually have your boards cut into the required sizes at HD or Lowes, no charge. Even plywood.

I know it is easy to cut them shorter, but im talking thinner. I wasn't sure if that was more difficult.

Unless you have a good table saw, probably so. And that is one type of cut that Home Depot and Lowes won't do

I tried as well. I made my firts ever batch of mozarella cheese. It is really good. But then I fed the whey to the chickens. There goes the un-chicken relatedness

Ooh, I love cheese making. But, I want to try hard cheese. I can't convince my husband to take time from his schedule to make me a cheese press. I want to make some cheddar, blue and Swiss cheese.
Cheese making at Mikey's house and he build's the presses? A non-chicken event for the control tower?

Mikey, the control tower is welcome to come help me train my 2 year old horse. Next on the project list once I get the fall/winter garden planted.
Wait, scratch that. Horses are more expensive then chickens. You might not want her to develop the horse hobby.
Better idea-Shars has canning and baking classes for about $10.00 apiece. I have the schedule. Next canning class is Tuesday morning this week but I think they have lots of evening classes, too.

Ooh, I love Shar's classes. The best part is eating! Her canning class got me off my duff to can my dried beans. No more Rosarita's for this family.
