Arizona Chickens

My mom accused me of making doll houses instead of chicken coops, and I am no where near some of the fancy coops you see. Different strokes for different folks.

My husband does the same thing. He doesn't share my passion or help me build. He accuses me of going overboard, calls me a crazy chicken lady and keeps a mental tab of chicken expenses. But, when his buddies come over he shows off the coops and chickens and proudly tells them his "wife did it by herself". Little moments like that add validation. Great to know the Spousal support it there!!

Mikey- Your coop is definitely a good, solid well built coop. You did a great job!! (although, I can envision a curtain or two and some pastel paint....

OK - I'll consider a curtain or two - BUT NO PASTELS!

Hey, I have curtains. Of course, they're the sun screen, removable in the winter, on the outside kind.

So, in AZ we can legally shoot the bad guys who threaten us in our house or property but not the rabid javelina? I think, if it comes down to me or the rabid pig, I'd take my chances on the fine.

I took the CCW class a couple of times. You can only shoot the bad guys if that is your only recourse. If you can get away, you are supposed to get away. I know the laws change on a regular basis and the last class I attended was about 2 years ago.

I took my class about four years ago. I'm armed. Have a rabid ex-husband with an expired restraining order and no known address.
Also have Lucy and pepper spray. Plan A and B. If plan A and B fail C is loaded.

I couldn't travel on Phoenix's "Home Town Airline" with either my parrot or rabbit. And I work for them.

I know you are talking chickens in pet carriers, etc on the plane--

--but I had a funny mental image of some of our more interactive ladies strutting up the aisles, ducking under the seats, scratching at bags of peanuts, begging for treats, hopping on people's laps and staring at them in the "FEED ME I AM STARVING TO DEATH!!" kind of way

Hi Gallo, I have not heard of a Javalina with rabies until now.... I know they have a nasty bite that is known to become very infected if one is not careful, but not rabies. They are omnivores so perhaps they ate an infected animal or it was bitten by one?

Either way I would think they would be aggressively trying to locate the other 2, but that does not seem to be the case.

Actually horses and cattle are not uncommonly infected by rabies, bitten by rabid animals. The horse or cow can then infect a human when you try to figure out why it's slobbering and acting weird, like it had a stroke. I used to have to vaccinate my horses in OK with all the skunks, coon, coyotes, fox and possums running around.
I can imagine it wouldn't be hard for a javelina to get bitten in a scuffle with a rabid skunk/coyote. They're very territorial and agressive.

We have so many guns at our house. Hubby is a huge 2nd amendment proponent. I'm retired Army so, well, you know how soldiers are about their guns.
