breaking news greater metro area peeps! there is a fellow on the VPA trying to get a mass order on organic layer crumble feed, the cost with shipping is $17.66 per 50#, but you must commit to 250#. it is trucked in on a flatbed, i think, and in ONE HUGE BAG. that's how he can secure such a great price. i believe he said it's from montana, drop point in gilbert, bring a 55 gallon drum container to shovel the feed into, but he needs to secure 10 peeps to order. i'll see if i can post the link. http://www.phoenixpermaculture.org/...cken-feed-for-huge-savings?xg_source=activity

They are just off grand on a frontage road north of Greenfield, OK place, but a bit messy sometimes where the chicks and ducks are in the back. There is a better store on Waddel between Reems and Litchfield called Dales Town & Country, very clean and big place...... http://www.dalestownandcountry.com/

If I remember correctly, Seramas are more susceptible to Mareks and for example Mediterranean breeds are less. Very sorry for this! But because you move between coops everybody has been likely exposed anyway. Hope you are not going to loose more!
Mareks is typically spread through feather dander, so any amount of wind or breeze and POUF, everything is exposed. That is the reason it is preferred to hatch day-old chicks, so that you can get them vaccinated BEFORE they are exposed. According to Merck, it is possible to vaccinate the developing egg.

Southern. I have an open bottle at home. I should be home after 7pm. You are welcome to come and get some. Bring a little container. At 1/2cc per bird your 40 won't need all that much. I'll have to order more eventually anyway. I am doing a round on Friday on 39 of mine.
Thanks so much! Have some ordered so I should be fine in a day or so.... If something goes awry I will contact you.

Interesting...and they have the animals, like pigs and chickens and such as well?
As you can tell, there isn't anything like this down here. I was going to have to ask a guy that works at a store I frequent, to ask his friend if I could buy some pigs from him. Convoluted? Yes. Pain in the butt? Yes. Plus, I don't really like either of said people I would need to use to get pigs.

Ugh...I would do it - but I would spend the savings just in gas to get up there & back. It's about 8 hours round-trip for me on top of having to drive a gas-guzzler to haul back the loot. I figure 400 miles round trip, 10MPG (being generous), $3.40/gallon...that's $136. I could buy almost 4 bags of organic down here with that gas money.
So I take that back...I would spend MORE than the savings just in gas. I want a car with a hydro-cell...
