Speaking of worms....I was thinking about the worm piece in the egg today (don't ask me why - I'm just that strange). If that egg had been fertilized, would it have effected the chick if it grew?

I would think very likely so....

I hope and pray I never see an egg like that in my frying pan.

So would it essentially just make it impossible for the chick to grow by stealing nutrients from the yolk, or by infecting the chick? I'm sure the answer is really obvious and I'm totally just being silly.

That would be correct and even if the chick did begin to develop the embryo would have to compete with the worm to grow and I would think both would die in the process...

So the mail finally brought some packages today.

Eggs all arrived intact, but my broody was a little flakey this morning and was off the nest for quite some time when it was very chilly out.

So, since Jenn sent 5 extras, I took all 17 over to Laree's to bake in her bator. They should hatch just in time for her to put eggs in for the NYD hatch.

I also received my Ecoglow brooder. If the flakey broody isn't on the eggs come Dec. 10th, I'll just put the chicks under the Ecoglow in my Laree brooder.

I got quite the variety in the package. 6 Coronation Sussex, 4 Red Sussex, 2 Buff Sussex, 2 sumatra, 2 mottled javas and a polish.

I imagine we'll be lucky to get 8 to hatch because even though all of the eggs were intact, the box didn't look so good. And of course out of those 8, only 3 or 4 will be hens.

Should be fun to see what happens... I did actually put out feelers for some W/BW Ameraucana eggs for the NYD hatch.....

Hmm...
that's not what I saw. I just saw little segments like little white pieces of rice. 3 or 4. The same thing I saw in the poop.

TT! :

Precursor to a major migraine? I thought they were residual effects from a history of heavy drug use. Admit it, you have a problem!

That's the first step...
