Arizona Chickens

Wow... yeah, you DO have lots of bill boards there! And lots of barrio birds!!!

But you know, if you build your home over uranium tailings, you'll always keep the glowing personality.

I kill me.

wow rufus, you are sort of in my neck of the woods! i am a bit more north, slightly west and live in a subdivision. no billboards here, but i hear the ghetto bird too. but i am close to the PPD precinct, but that didn't stop some SOBs from robbing my neighbor's home during the day last year while i was in the backyard with my then 4 year old!

Not sure if it is location or what, but we have never had anything disease wise that wiped out a bunch of chickens on our property and we have sparrows, doves, etc. all over the place. Worst we have ever had to deal with over the years is worm infestations from time to time and some external parasites now and then.

Sure sad to hear about that happening to Noel....

We don't worry over what might happen and just deal with issues as they come and I sure hope we never see anything like that....

Thanks!! I think I might add my coop to next years Tour de Coops!!! We are working on aquaponics. We have about a dozen Tilapia in the pond and are growing wheat grass and "chicken salad" in a couple tubs for the girls. We also have some veggies for us as well. We also took down the one section of the lattice fence between the pool and "grass" (what's left of it)

What do you use for filters? I used to raise koi but never combined it with gardening. I'd love to raise fresh eating fish and I also miss my koi. I wonder if large mouth bass or crappie can be raised that way? Or walleye? So much tastier than tilapia.

I haven't used it much. Would it help with this stupid sinus headache I've had all week?
AZ chicken, I wish you luck, I'm sorry about your chicken.
Pastrymama, pm me if you can. What's going on with your BC's?

The "book" says your better off with lavender for headaches but then again there is a long list of different kinds.

Well, I have tons of lavender outside, maybe I can make an if fusion, use it for tea or just smell the steam?

I try and avoid Apache Trail during the winter months just for that reason.

I know! Sometimes I wonder if that's why the Apaches left.

Some how I don't think it was the snow birds...

Depending on when they were processed there would be little to no uranium left in the tailings. They are reprocessing the copper mine tailings because they have better tech to remove more copper from the.

Prolly not really fertile ground though

I've always been fascinated by the process - it would give me yet another way to kill green things.

well, i just checked over the remaining 14 hens/pullets that are left and as of this moment, they are ok. i will continue to do daily rechecks(boy, do they love that, NOT!) the entire week. it's hard to believe that such little birds can destroy a flock in such a short time and bring in so many different types of diseases. i am wondering why certain breeds were affected and not others. are they just not as hardy? are we raising the wrong breeds in the phoenix area, like they are sitting ducks(no pun intended) just waiting to be wiped out by coryza, IB, fowl cholera, crd, etc? gallo, where are you and your encyclopedia brain?????????????

i am just sick i could puke
