Arizona Chickens

Is it normal for bantam breeds to take longer to lay? All my standard pullets are laying(got 10 eggs for the first time today!) But not a single one of my silkies or frizzles even seem close. The only other hen I have had lay was a bantam and she took 35 weeks. Could it just be the cold weather?

PS-Miki(the hen that got pecked) is doing well. She is in high spirits and silly as ever.

Well, mistake number ??? turned out just fine.

I gave the cluckers some melon this morning. I usually sit on the door frame of the coop and hand feed them. Today I put the Tupperware containing the remaining bits just outside the door so they wouldn't go into swarm/attack mode. Max (the dog) comes by unbeknownst to me and starts slurping up the melon.

So this is me laughing & trying to be stern & taking Max back into the house & leaving the coop door open.

This occurred this morning.

Needless to say on the way back from Phoenix I turn to the Control Tower and ask if I put the chickens back in the coop. (You know where this is going...)

She says of course you did, I say I don't remember that part.

We get home a few minutes ago and yup, they're just fine bopp'n all around the yard.

I guess they are free range chickens now.

What with all the warmth today, I let everyone run around. Found the gals who just got out of their molt exploring the nest boxes again, yay!!!
