Arizona Chickens

Here in Tucson, it is said we have over 50,000 Jews. But, only a small percentage are attending synagogues.

The Southwestern USA was pretty much settled by Jewish families, fleeing the persecution in Europe during the 1600-1700's.

I have to get rid of my flock. I have 2 hens left. 1 leghorn 1.5 years old who lays almost everyday, and a Jersey Giant 7 months old that should start to lay anytime now. If you know of anyone interested send them my way. Today would be best because we are heading out of town for the weekend. Thanks!

I suspect the diet. I understand chickens eat more feathers when their diet is lacking in protein. (Feathers are pretty much made out of protein.) Perhaps they were foraging for insects in warmer weather and the insects are mostly gone?

I would suggest trying a higher protein feed (I use Purina Flock Raiser 20%) and/or supplements like mealworms. If you are feeding low-protein supplements like scratch grains, you could reduce or eliminate that also. (The more scratch they eat, the less appetite they have for feed.)

Good luck!

I'd love to take one but as a noob I don't know how well they would integrate with my 3 month olds.

(Ha ha I typed 3 month year olds & caught it before I had to edit!)
