Arizona Chickens

So... I called to Post office today and the guy said chicks definitely won't get there on a sunday.. but my Mcmurray dates say they might! I am nervous about them getting there on Sunday now! How has it worked out for you guys?

Mama Hen Chris

We will not be keeping all of our baby chicks if you would like some of ours, they are from the Ornamental layers package so I don't know what they will be yet though! We might end up with something you might want? I know that the BLRW is on the list of possibles, but who knows? They get here the week of the 30th.
Thanks for the reply...will keep you in mind. Hope they come on time and healthy. Are they coming Express Mail?

speaking of not having roosters... ours started crowing this morning!
No takers, huh?
(remember, he's organically raised, handsome and well behaved)

You can order fewer than 25 at Ideal Hatchery and if you don't want roosters or packing peanuts you can say so. Of course, there is never a guarantee that you won't get a rooster. Even if you order sex-links! If you want 4 you can always order a few more and sell POL pullets. I usually order 10 and find homes for what I don't want. It's pretty easy with pullets/chicks.

My one chick who turned out to be a rooster crowed at 9 weeks old. Had to take him back to the feed store. I hear ya, nothing is guaranteed. Thanks for the advice , will do more research.

I have had as many as three leghorns in my flock at one time. I'm down to one right now. They are egg laying machines !!!!!!

want to be able to tell them apart? do what I do. Paint their tails ! I have one with a red tail one with a green one and one with a blue one. I have two Austra whites that look like leghorns. They are much calmer then the leghorn

Thanks Ron! But I was talking about telling the eggs apart! Good idea on identifying the chickens though.

I've some Blu-Kote left from an unfortunate Cornish pecking incident - That'll prolly do it.

Just curious if anyone is going to place an order from a hatchery? What hatchery have you used? Did they provide good customer service as well? Welp wants a minimum of 25 to be ordered. I am only wanting 4. I am looking for 2 EE's, 1 SLW and 1 BLRW. Or anyone planning on selling any chicks next month or so? I would love more Ameracauna's, Marans and possibly Olive Eggers...pullets only as I can't have roosters here even though I would love to. Decisions, decisions!!!!

Thanks all

CHRIS!!!!

I've been prancing around here screaming about new peepers for weeks now!!!

Why didn't you say something???

What are we married or something? Did I use my own voice?

BTW - T-minus 3 days till new peepers!!!

Bearded silkies have very small, nearly non-existent wattles (the bearded gene reduces the size of wattles); non-bearded silkies typically have fairly large wattles. Without a photo, I would not hazard a guess on gender, and maybe not even then. But I would say that wattles are not really a reliable indicator in silkies.

From your description, it sounds like the chicks are probably blue.

Unless you have someone to share an order with, it would make more sense to purchase your chicks through a feed store or a breeder. Also, if bought through a hatchery, you will get Easter Eggers, NOT ameraucanas.

Just decided recently to get fuzzy butts...figured too late to add to your order.

Hmm,,,2 hubby's. You both are great at building things. I always have projects I would like done!

For sure I wouldn't forget your names as current hubby is a Mike. Going to celebrate 10 years on Feb 2.

Mikey prancing. I would like to see that. You don't seem the prancer type LOL.

Thanks....I know some feed stores will order what you want. I am going to check it out. I do know about the EE's. I did mention to one feed store that what they have are EE's and they said they kept calling them Ameracauna's. In their minds that is what they call them, even though I disagreed with them. They are deceiving the public for sure.
