I lost my 18 month old Delaware. She laid pinkish eggs. The poor gal has been through lots. First she had an impacted crop which I got under control, then she moulted and then the tapeworms showed up.
Took samples of poo to the vet who agreed it was tapeworms. I wormed all the girls with Panacur that the vet recommended and that seemed to fix most of the girls. I then wormed with Valbazen and that took care of everyone but my Del. She just couldn't shake it.She was losing weight and I tried to get her weight up with scrambled egg, etc. I then got I-Gold but it was too late. I came home from work, said hello to her and she passed right after she looked at me. Hopefully the rest of the year will be good.
Just sad to lose one. I know eventually they will pass, but I didn't think this soon.
I don't mind naming them. Hubby doesn't remember their names anyhow....it's the black one, or the pretty one, etc. He does know Daisy, the BO, as he named her.
Planning on more little ones next week and the week after to take care of. Gotta get the brooder ready this weekend. I am getting excited for babies again.
The bad bird luck seems to be spreading. One of my five little silkie chicks had matted shut eyes today and is acting very sleepy. I washed the eyes off and they are reaccumulating with frothy bubbles. No coughing or sneezing, MAYBE some mouth breathing yesterday but none today. I've isolated the little critter (which chicks don't seem to like, BTW) and am going to track down some vitamins and abx, if I can find a feed store that has them.
From my research, it seems to be some sort of respiratory problem, maybe Mycoplasma or coryzia?
You are going to want to get some antibotics. I think higley feeds cares some.
I got some tetracycline to add to its water. Should I treat everyone as a preventative? Besides good hand washing, is there anything else I can do to protect the other guys?
I have a chair in my grow out pen for my NYD chicks.. Yesterday I cleaned off the chair and when I sat down one of the Icelandics was on the chair and I sat on it. It's still alive... but I don't know how much longer. Yup, one of those weeks.
