do any feed store in the area carry Oxine? I have decided that it is a must have after reading an article about it SCNA. Does any one here use it and if so where is the best place to get it?

She was born that way, we originally thought that she had some neurological disorder but we think it's just a little blindness. She goes to bed earlier than the others, before it gets too dark, and hops off the roost later in the morning. She's fallen a few times, but generally she's fine.

By the way, since winter started, she started a molt and quit laying eggs. Her comb and wattle a a bit deflated and slightly discolored. She's lively and doesn't seem sick, but would love a second opinion. Here's a new pic showing the discoloration. She's been like this since November, should we be worried? She's 11 months old.

I searched and searched for a local oxine source but was unsuccessful. I know that it's also used in the restaurant industry and used to clean duct work as well, so maybe there's a source somewhere there that I couldn't locate. I agree that it's a good thing to have on hand. I have two BO's that had a fungal infection in their lungs and oxine dispensed through a cool mist vaporizer worked like magic at clearing it up. I had another EE with a spot of fungus on her comb and just a couple applications with a q-tip fixed that. I think it's a just a good general disinfectant too, with little lasting environmental toxicity. I ended up ordering mine through Amazon.

Dubby14, I'd really like to know what causes that too! I have a BO (Kevin) that has never been quite right, but now her comb is turning a little purple. She grew shockingly faster than all her other flockmates, including her actual sister, she's the most susceptible to heat problems and she laid only a few dozen eggs in her 2+ years (no eggs in the last year). I always attributed her issues to some genetic/developmental problem, but now I wonder if those underlying problems are just contributing to separate issues. From what little I've read, purple combs often relate to blood oxygenation (respiratory) issues, but it seems difficult to nail down specific causes. The pattern of discoloration on Harvey is a bit different than Kevin's; the purplish tint is more uniform throughout her comb. BTW, Harvey really is amazingly beautiful! I love those spots!

You know, we thought it was a genetic disorder as well! We've been thinking, lately, that its a combo of stress and cold. Sarah also thinks that it's due to confining Harvey, which causes her stress. Her breed and temperament may not be suited for a coop as small as ours. She seems happy most of the time, but we worry.
 
I called higley feed in mesa to see if they will carry oxone for us. Gallo- did you just put it in a regular humidifier to mist it. I looked online and the fogger was $350. Yikes!

Also when combs turn purple it means that they are stressed for some reason. Also I read a book and it said that if a rooster has frost bite on his comb that he is unfertile until it heals. By mom bought me a poultry magazine and it showed glove tips that had been cut off and put on the combs. it was pretty cool. Not needed for tucson or phx, but maybe in heber for boston bryce. We will have to take up a collection for used gloves for bostons snow bound chickens.
 
Yeah, my Lavender Orpington, Iris, is finally getting ready to lay her first egg. Things are beginning to look promising now. (Iris is 9 months old-just a late bloomer)
