Arizona Chickens

Quail babies have been delivered to their new home and I came home with 3 dozen eggs to set. In 3 weeks I should have wellies, ameraucanas and fbcms. The fireman is already having chicken math anxiety, so if you are going to want some babies, send me a pm please. I don't want my babies bbqd.
Congrats on the successful hatching! I'd take some FBCM and Wellies, but I'd need a broody to take care of them! But really, great job!

It's been that long already !!

I'm so glad. I'll let Kim (the chickies grandma) know. She'll be tickled.

SherrieT I wanted to thank you again for getting me the hatching eggs. Today was hatch day! Five of the twelve eggs never started, which I removed at day 10. Of the seven remaining eggs, all hatched! I have have chicks again!

LOL....I was just looking at the pictures and wondering if you took my advice. Hope it works out for you. Then you'll have an outlet if you decide to place a fan in there to cool the ladies in the summer or if you decide to get an incubator and need power because the control tower won't let you keep it inside. You could build a box and hide the incubator from the control tower. Just a thought. Then when they hatch, quickly and discretely sell them or make a hidden brooder.

No hide'n nutt'n from the Control Tower!

I used the outlet today for an electric drill for the grow out pen. Very handy!

(see the post after I get done answering THREE FREAK'N PAGES OF POSTS FROM TODAY!)

OMG...I know what you mean. I do scratch and mash mixed 50/50. My husband built the treadle feeder and I propped it open as suggested for training. Those darn chicks got in and scratch out over a gallon of feed all over the ground. I closed the box and are making them clean up before their allow to get it propped open again. They won't starve, they're just going to have to use their instincts to forage and eat my left over veggies from dinner. Darn chicks are messy. Between them and my kids I think we've wasted about 25# of food. UGGG

Have hubby install a baffle just under the back edge of the feed opening.

That will lower the feed height and keep them from beaking the feed out.

I think my feed height is at least 2" below the opening (maybe more)
