Arizona Chickens

Dear Peoples: My camera is missing. Please check your cars, houses, and chicken coops if I have been over lately.

Thank you, and tidy up your waffles.

Hi, I have been wanting chickens for a long time and am finally ready to commit but never thought to look at the town codes until tonight and it shows having chickens as a violation. I am in Prescott Valley as well but I am on the county land near Castle Canyon Mesa and I know that people a few streets over have a horse so I never thought Chickens would be a problem. Have you had any issues or do you know for a fact that chickens are a violation but just get away with them? I will be crushed if I can not get them, It's been such a long time coming.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

You need to check the zoning on YOUR property. What your neighbors have will mean jack squat to the county.

I would STRONGLY recommend you do not get chickens if your zoning says they are not allowed. It can be a very, very, very expensive and heartbreaking mistake.

BTW: BYC rules prohibit us from encouraging you to break the law (or discussing it if we are in violation). Keep it in mind when you post about your experiences.

Good luck!

Mikey you need to build/weld a carrier for your road trip to bring me eggs from someone over there. I am sure I can find something I need you to bring me. i figured eggs would be better than a fullsized chicken strapped to the back of your bike!

I don't really know where Castle Canyon Mesa is, but if you are outside of Prescott Valley then it would be the county laws you have to worry about?? Here is the link for county laws. http://www.co.yavapai.az.us/uploadedFiles/Ordinances/zoningordinance.pdf Animal laws are on page 81. It says 8 chickens per acre or portion there of.

But I am a bit confused because there is a meeting in Cottonwood end of the month to change the County laws and "allow chickens"?? Maybe they are hoping to change the amount you can own per acre...dunno...but will see if I can find the link for the county meeting.

k here it is. http://verdenews.com/Main.asp?SectionID=36&SubSectionID=73&ArticleID=46705 They are encouraging everyone to be present Don't be chicken to sound off in poultry debate

Southerndesert, good eye or just that like attracts like. I have an 81 that I maintain and ride (mostly maintain lately) shovels always grab my attention.

Laree, good to see you and great advise on that waffle tidying.

Whitsay, we live in a county island and found that a call to the county was needed for clarification. City ordinances seem to be more cut and dried.

Nurseshelly, my wife just was down in Oracle for a beekeeping confrence. We have an empty hive and I think she wants another. She's been exploring her bee options, I'll point her your way for some info
