Arizona Chickens

Hi again fellow AZ chicken people
Well, today was a really, REALLY bad day here.
I was taking the new chicks outside into the garden area for some sunshine.
I set up their cage and (it's a long story) Flash, one of my girls, got into the main yard.
Our dog killed her. I am soooooooooooooooo upset. I have been crying nearly all day.
It is my fault that she got killed and I feel like CRAP. I thought I would share the
Reader's Digest version w/all of you here. I am guessing that you'd understand.

I think most people I know just don't "get" it.

Oh crud! I'm so sorry that happened.

On another note not dealing with chickens, my son was deployed to Bahrain. He got there today. Waiting to hear what he thinks of the place. Keep good thoughts for him. He will be there 6-9 months.

I'll be sending positive thoughts his way. My brother was deployed there for a bit; he had some interesting stories to tell. Thank your son for me. I wish him all the luck.

Hi everyone. I just joined. We're planning on getting chickens in the next few months. We're planning a mixed flock for egg laying and just fun family pets. Will they get along ok if they're different sizes? I'm planning to order from chickens for backyards so they'll all grow up together. Maybe a buff orpington, 2 wyondottes, a white rock, and a sussex. I'll keep learning from all the posts. Glad I found this site.

Good for you for planning and you've come to the right place. We're glad you joined us!

Oh my goodness. I just witnessed my Shephard mix run into the run after a dove did, dive into the coop after the dove, scared the bejezzes out of my hen that was in a nesting box (who came flying outta the coop), then come out with a dove in her mouth. Walked out of the coop/run and let it free. She never does that with the chickens, acts like she is one of the chickens, always interested in what they are eating. That dove is lucky I have a gentle, mothering dog. Now she is pacing in the run watching for more.

Pictures of her in the coop and run, no bird in mouth. These are taken from my office window, so there is a screen creating the fuzzy picture.

BTW...I would not be surprised at all if she would sit on a clutch of eggs or chicks for one of the broodies in the future.

Great pics! She is a keeper :)

Welcome to the AZ thread!

My little ones are 4 and 5 weeks old now and it's time to send them out into the big world. (they are starting to smell up the place) I think this weekend they will permanently live in the Lil Chick Inn.

On another note not dealing with chickens, my son was deployed to Bahrain. He got there today. Waiting to hear what he thinks of the place. Keep good thoughts for him. He will be there 6-9 months.

My son went there right before the war in Iran, then relocated...Sending prayers for him and hugs to you girl! :)
