Ok, So I candled again today. I found a sited here on BYC called: "Candling pics: Progression through Incubation". They have really good pics. My eggs look like the 52 hr picture.

So I think that puts the "due date" April 6th. Is that right. Guess it's too late for the Mahonri's Easter hatch, but I'm happy that they do look fertile! Wish me luck.

On a sadder note, I'm sorry Mikey.

I think two of our Serama hens decided to enter us into the Easter hatch without telling us...they are co-broodies and are jointly sitting on 3 eggs.

We didn't think they would be fertile but I candled them and see VEINS! wow.....this is new to us. Have no idea when they might be 'due' though. We don't know what we're doing, and they've only been laying for about 2 months so they're new too (but they seem pretty dedicated, so who knows?) I don't have hugely high hopes but it would be cool if we somehow end up with a little peeper at the end of all of this

Now I have to read up on broody lockdowns and such.....

I didn't want to utter a kinahurra but...

YES!

She had her eye open last night and this morning and this afternoon when I got home!

Those Gentamicin eye drops from the donor "who shall not be named" are doing the trick (knock knock).

Of course the control group packing peanut that has been with the sick chicks for weeks is doing just fine.

I'm going to shovel out the coop and disinfect it with the Oxine from Sonoran Silkies tomorrow.

I was inspecting a rickety old dog house I offered to Pastry Mama

(it was rickety enough that if I had realized the extent of the rickety-ness, I'd not have offered it)

and what do I see under the dog house's awning?



They all looked about the same size & color so someone is being lazy.

We did the water test & all of them sank so...

We're call'n them good!

The time finally came to let the babies sleep outside.They were just getting too big and stinky for the brooder. Well, I survived the night and they did too. The first time is always the hardest to let them leave "home" on their own.

It is getting more difficult to take group shots now but I got a somewhat good one.

6.5 and 5.5 weeks old.
