Arizona Chickens

Nope, not an ideal problem in mikey's situation. He had chicks go to two different homes from from his shipment and they were fine.

And speaking of chicks in sad situations, the hatch I did had gone so well and some of those were to go to mikey but he couldn't take them during all of this, so I sold them to a friend. She went later to a feed store that shall not be named and within a week, the chicks have come down with a respiratory thing so severe they are dropping dead. So sad.

I don't even want to walk into a feed store anymore. I may come home with a little something extra I don't want!

Sonoran silkies, left you a message. She is not broody, poo is fine, eating/drinking, sleeping all day, wont stand, prefers to just huddle. I have treated for lice, mites, worms and cocci. Anything else? She stopped laying.

I couldn't help but get her. Look how adorable! White crested black Polish

Also, Tommy Love, our one and only roo (whom AZKat kindly brought us, we gave our other roo, Sweety, to our neighbor because they didn't have one and they wanted one) crowed for the first time this morning!!! So cute! He, uh, needs some voice lessons...

Wow it takes forever to read through these posts when the internet provider SUCKS and it keeps kicking me off! Not even sure if this will make it on the forum. Pastry, I bet I can guess which feed store..... as far as apple trees, Golden dorsette requires the least amount of chill hours I've ever seen at only150. It it self fruitful but will benefit from another variety like Anna. As I have learned recently it does require specific prunning though.

I just did a class with my girls on how to graft a tree and came home with a few golden dorsette trees. I'm planning on planting 1 or 2 here and 1 in Tucson. They are just little sticks now, but I don't know how to prune them when the time comes. Where did you learn about the pruning? Maybe you can help me when the time comes?

The grafting worked, though! The little sticks we grafted on top of the root stocks are budding!

I have three barred rocks about 9-12 mths old. One has gone broody. She won't get off the nest. And even though we have two nests, the others climb on top/next to her to lay their eggs.

Yesterday, I caught her off the nest and she had a big hard clumb of poo stuck to her behind. It wasn't blocking her vent though. I loosened it up with warm water and picked it off carefully.

That was the grossest thing I ever had to do, far worse than a baby with projectile diahrea. Well, last night/this morning, she was back on the nest. I think we are going on 5 days now. And her comb has faded.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

1. If I collect the eggs she sat on for 24 hrs, can I still eat them?
2. Should I put her in a pen to break the broodiness or wait this out?

If you have a broody, you should either try to break her of it, or get her some fertile eggs, or newly hatched chicks.

Anybody out there interested in any fertile goose eggs? 2 of mine are broody and the others keep laying eggs in the nests and I have been collecting all the newly laid eggs. I have brown chinese and pilgrim ? type girls and a pied chinese? Male. One of my neighbors loves to eat the goose eggs but she has too many right now so there are more up for grabs if anyonde is interested.FEMALE

I have been looking for a few ornamental type breeds of chicks/chickens or turkeys. Can anybody out ther tell me where a good or bad feed store is to look for some? (I really want to know the bad ones) so I dont go there. Thanks!
