pimachickens, I wonder if your neighbors got the idea of raising chickens after they first heard your chickens' egg songs?

I was just joking about the broody lockdown. But it is interesting, the last two days, when she leaves her nest, it's only for about 5 minutes. Before, she would be off for about 15 minutes. I want to candle, but I also don't want to disturb her in these last few days. I have to be patient! Arg! The suspense is killing me!Quote: Umm, no. Broodies do their own thing. I go out after dark with a flashlight and pull the eggs out one by one and candle them. When I have a broody, I make a point of spnding a bit of time with her on her nest, and reaching under and checking her eggs. They tend to be grouchy, but for the most part get used to it.
I did have one slightly insane araucana cross who would scream like a banshee and run for her dear life, leaving eggs and later chicks alone until I left.I guess she thought like quail and other ground nesting birds that if she ran away, I would chase her and leave the nest alone. Silly girl. She laid the prettiest Easter Egg Green egg--not a trace of brown in it (did I ever mention that the idea of olive eggers makes me shudder
) She went to live with a friend in Tucson, along with her brother, Roofus. Guess where he liked to roost? (his name is a big clue)![]()

My brown leghorn's comb is purple on the tips, and kind of floppy. I can't find any useful information on the forums, it ranges from 'she'll be ok' to 'she's gonna die' and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I checked her, and didn't see any lice, mites or signs of worms. Her vent looked good, and she was acting otherwise normal.
How awesome is that?!!! What a tiny little cutie. Uno is a perfect name too.
Too cute! And yes - the perfect name!OMG OMG OMG OMG!!! I came home from being out of town for two nights to find THIS bitty PEEPER!!!!

This chick is our first chick to hatch ever, under 2 first time broodies....I kinda figured that the 3 eggs the co-broodies have been jointly sitting on would be duds but not this little one![]()
Daddy is Cujo, the 1 pound Serama roo, and mom is a Serama hen (But we're not sure which!) either Squirrely or Webster![]()
Here is Squirrely and the new chick, which we are calling Uno for now![]()
