just got back yesterday afternoon from girly scout camp. we froze up there in the SNOW, the girls had a blast though. i am beat but am ready to sell off some hens. i just can't have this many any more. i know, jaws drop

i am thinking about the kids summer schedule and it is very hectic, so i feel it's not fair to my hennies. plus, i lost a big egg customer who decided to go vegan. that hurts. my flock is healthy, i don't let anyone in there, as mikey knows

and i just eprinexed everyone a few weeks ago, no signs of any critters, although they are due tonight for worming now that i am back. so here is what i have available:
salmon faverolle
easter eggers
lots of silkie babies in white, blue, black, buff (not hatchery stock)
perhaps a few basque pullets and a basque roo

pm me for details/questions
I know of a couple of Farmer's Markets that are looking for an egg supply...

One of my chickens died last night. (Eggbound.) Maybe it was karma, since she was the agressive one who had been picking on the smallest (and most productive) hen, to the point where I had to separate the productive hen from the flock while she healed up. The good news is that with the agressive hen gone, the little hen is back with the flock, everyone is happy, no one is picking on anyone else, and everyone is LAYING. Woo HOO!!!

Now that I have a section of the coop separated for recovery, it occurs to me it would be a great place to house some new pullets while introducing them to the flock.
1 deceased adult chicken = at least 4 new pullets, right?

Seriously, the coop/run was designed for 8 chickens and I have three. So I'd like to get two or three pullets, locally bred (local being within a 2-3 hour drive from Tucson). The breed is not as important as birds that are healthy, heat tolerant (raised in AZ heat for a few generations) and tolerant of confinement to a fully enclosed (hardware cloth) run. I am concerned about the heat. We don't have many trees so we are covering the coop/run in shadecloth for the summer, and I am attempting to get stuff to grow around it so there will be more natural shade someday.

I'll be ready for the pullets in a couple of weeks. Anyone have any recommendations? Or suitable birds that might be available in a couple of weeks?

PM Pastrymama - she is going to get rid of a few hens and her birds have been raise by the bio-security guru!

I personally think that this (Pastry's sale) is just a ruse to get more new chickens though...
