Arizona Chickens

I'll have a little tractor sans wheels in a week or so...

Roughly 4 x 6 x 2 foot tall - all steel and rough around the edges but quite sturdy.

Lemme know...
Mikey I sure could use it if I can find someway to get it to Wittmann! I've gotten to a point that I need a grow out pen real bad. PM me.

My mom is interested in one. She has a block fenced in back yard - HUGE yard & unless the silly things can fly pretty well (Can they?) it should be OK back there.

Anyone have any ideas where I could procure one?
Pratt's has them occasionally, and there is a lady in the Tucson area who raises them. However, they do fly. There used to be one or two in the next neighborhood over, and it was not uncommon to see them on the roofs of those houses.

Mikey they are so loud. they scream "help" (it really sound like they are saying help) none stop my friend here has about 20 oif them. She sells them for about $40 a piece. They roost on the roof of her house which is a two story house....so yes they fly. My neighbor has them and she is about 1/2 a mile down and I can still hear them all they way at my house. I dont think you will have happy neighbors if you get them.

MikeyD---- HI, I do not have peacocks but have several friends who do. I also tended to them when I worked at the PHX ZOO. Yes, They can fly very well especially the females. One of my friends had 2 of her expensive hens fly to a house about 2 miles away, she found them but the Lady who lives at the house where the Pcocks flew to refuses to give them back to the real owner. Her reason for not giving them back "her sons, love to chase them around too much" ! What a psyco thief!!! My friend is very upset needless to say. Also they do scream very loudly and it does sound like a woman or small child screaming "HELP" ! It Can be disturbing to others who dont know what it is! Also, it is very true that they do roost as high as they can get and there is no fence high enough to keep them in. Another of my friends with pcocks had to cover the entire run she has hers in . She used that flimsy 2" chicken wire stuff and is very effective at keeping them in, but who want to pen up peacocks? :( Maybe clipping the wings on a regular basis might help! Good luck

Thank you Puffy, Sonoran and Memphis.

I'm OK with clipping wings and as mom lives 12 miles from us I'm OK with the noise as well.

If they are raised from a chick in a specific location, will they pretty much stay there?

Hey Puffycheeks, How you like my stuff chicken toy? No one has said anything about it.

I have lost two chicks now that had pasty butt. It was Cottons chicks and I never thought that chicks raised with mother had that problem. I saw it to late. One other chick had it but I think I got to him intime and I keep my eye on them now. Checking their little fuzzybutts often.

The Oregon Zoo has quit a few of them. They can fly pretty high. You would see them perched on light poles throughout the park to avoid people. I have also seen them at the zoo out west and they were perched up high as well. The blue, green ones are much prettier than the white ones. They are also very noisy. Good luck.

Well, the peas, green beans and sun flowers that I planted on the south side of the run are a nice 6-8 inches tall now. I installed the single hoes mister I purchased in January and have it running in the run. The pullets are hanging out under the coop today. I think the mister system is really keeping it cool under there (or they are scared to come out and get wet.) I missed my chickens last week while I was in Houston. I was so glad to get back home Sunday night and see them all yesterday morning. I am so happy I came back to healthy chickens. I was worried about them while I was gone and the heat was rising. They were well taken care off.

I also came back to nearly 2 dozen eggs (form my two layers). That made me really happy.

My pullets that hatched on 1/4 have started to get a lot of red in their combs. I am hoping they start laying early
