on the rt side of the photo is enclosed has some chicken wire on it looks like it was used for calves or goats before.. i just moved out here and want to get sme chickens.. wondering if i put more chicken wire on the sides and top of this built some laying boxes place them off the ground & on the side w doors or something.. would that work.. it does have a metal siding shadded area in it..

I went last weekend. Someone had a beautiful Java trio I fell in love with, but I don't know they belonged to. The exhibits were by number, not names. I didn't have time to find out who belonged to that exhibitor number (which I forgot to write down. UGH!) Those birds were supposed to be removed on Sunday evening so you may not find the same birds there this weekend.

If anyone knows who bred the Javas I'd like to get in touch with them. Not quite ready for new birds yet, but those were gorgeous. Maybe they'd sell me some culls later...

Ive purchased two Peafowl from a guy that sells at the fair ever year. Might be the same guy. I have a Java green and Indian Blue both are 3 years old now , only 1 more year until they can breed

Looks like a nice set up. Chicken wire works great for keeping the chickens in the pen, but doesn't do a whole lot for keeping predators out. Welded wire fencing is tougher and foot for foot probably less expensive. Either dig something in at the bottom or fold the fencing over to make a good apron so critters can't dig in and wipe out your flock.

No but ive been wanting one. I say female because we have a female Pekin right now and I dont want to breed any. We were going to adopt one from a rescue like our other duck. do you think they would fight if they had theyre own nesting boxes...Im still deciding.

Female ducks rarely ever fight. I have even had 2 females sit on the same nest at the same time!!! Right now I actually have a female muscovy, a jungle fowl hen and a royal palm turkey all sitting on the same nest at the same time!!!

I think it would be great if you got your other duck a friend and adopting one from a rescue is awesome!!! I had no idea there was a poultry rescue. Can you share the information on who , what, and where it is? Thanks and good luck!!!

Puffycheeks, I love all your new chicks! The turkeys are very sweet!
I wonder if the chicks I lost were never do wells anyway. They had never grown and had no meat on their little bones but then again I didn't get to the pasty butts in time for I didn't think to look since they were with the mother. The last 5 seem OK so far.
Glad you liked my stuff toy chicken. I named him Rocky!

I don't understand something! I went through all of Cottons chicks to look for more pasty butt [all clear] and noticed that my silky chicks only have 3 toes! Tumbleweed is the only roo I have and I know he is purebred silky and Cotton is purebred silky. The last clutch had the correct toes so WHAT HAPPENED!

Mikey- answer about the web cam. We had a HooToo IR camera and hubby just opened an account on ustream.com. Ours is not wireless.


Did your gal with the eye troubles look like this in the beginning? (This is Mama to be Gretchen) I noticed this when I got home from work today. I brought her in the house and cleansed the area.It is slightly swollen and puffy. Hard to tell in this photo. I am hoping that it just was an irritation from dust bathing as she was full of sand. Otherwise any recommendations if it gets worse on how to treat?

Any comments from everyone would be helpful. Thanks

Sorry about Gretchens eye??/ I always keep terramyacin eye ointment on hand for such things. I can use it on all of my animals if i need to. WR should have it.
