I discovered today that the Spits have blue ears.

Not the totally cool iridescent blue of the silkies (hopefully not yet

)...

but blue nonetheless.

I let them out (unsupervised) for the first time today. All was well.

I hope to get to the drug store for iron-less pedia vitamins for Flopsy tomorrow.

Did anyone see this the last time? Or this time?

My production red has a new name.

Her name is Meow!

I still think the black one is a hen. The comb is so small but sure I will swap her/him for a hen if that happens.
Sonoran Silkies do you think that black chick is a roo? It is 8 weeks old. What about the silver one in the picture?

She sure sounds like she is saying meow. She's a cat in chicken skin! :) Love it.

Just went out to collect the morning eggs and got this one. This is close to twice the length of what we usually get and it's the biggest of the biggies we've ever gotten. This explains the extra loud noises we heard this morning. OUCH!

Too funny. I head one of mine purring in the hen house last night. It was pretty cute.

I am feeling bad today. I have to keep the girls on lock down as the hubby is going to be doing yard work today. Mowing and putting down weed killer. The girls just don't keep the weeds down enough and they are out of control. So far I haven't noticed any fighting but it's only 9:30 and they are going to have to be locked down for 2 days.

Hard to believe that my oldest chicks are now 16 weeks old and will be hopefully laying within the next month. I am anxious to see the first eggs. Two of them have very red cheeks, combs and waddles.

I may have to go out and buy some mealworms today. My colonies are getting going but no mealworms to speak of yet. Lots of beetles. Hopefully they are laying lots of eggs.

I likely won't be back on this weekend. If you go to the meat bird class tomorrow try and wear your t-shirts Mikey made us for the poultry show. I'll keep my eye out.

(I know, I know, that's what she said...)
