He Is really is pretty and VERY fertile!!! He is also very protective of his harem but not mean at all, just comes to investigate when one of the hens make a little cackle. He is the daddy of all my mix chix and all of them turned out very cute!!! Please let me know as I am keeping him in a small cage right now and He is not happy.

I just got caught up after being gone a few days. It was great seeing PuffyCheeks and Mama Hen Chris at Ranchmsn's on Sunday for the Feed Bird and Raising Backyard Chickens classes. I was a little disappointed in driving all that way to hopefully see a demo on meat birds in order to see if I had the nerve to do it. Well, it was informative. I may end up with a turkey next year. I will be taking my girls out to the Urban Farm for a tour on Saturday. Can't wait. Let me know if you plan to go and we can try to meet up. http://www.urbanfarm.org/uf-events/event/277-urban-farm-tour

Puffycheeks, I think that's a great idea!

Hi ALL does anyone here know if ther is an Arizona auction specific site or a buy sell trade AZ site on here? I went to the auction and buy sell trade areas but it was crazy so I was wondering if any such thing existed just for Az? Thanks if you know! It might be a great idea to start one, what do you all think???

Does anyone know where I can buy food grade DE in Tucson? Ants have discovered my coop/run. I have non-food-grade DE but everyone on BYC says use food grade stuff around the chickens. Not totally sure what the difference is. No time to order online - the ants will discover the feeder before anything can get delivered.

My chickens love cockroaches but seem totally uninterested in eating ants. Just wait until their layer pellets start marching out the coop one at a time.

I use amdro for ants. Just don't let the chickens out for a day. The ants will be gone within the hour.

I've used amdro before and it does work, but I don't want to poison the horned lizards in my yard. Will try the DE first and use the amdro as backup.

DE works great outside when it's dry. You just have to sprinkle it on their hill every day for about a week. It's a little bit of a pain, but at least you aren't using poison around the chickens (and lizards

).
That said, we use amdro on the ones that get in the house sometimes if we can't find the ant hill. We block off where they are coming in from pets and kids and put it down for a couple of days. Then clean it all up really well.

My GSL hen is crowing!!
She stretches out her neck, flaps her wings and crows!
I tried to get a video, but of course she quit as soon as I got the camera. How am I going to explain that one to the neighbors? I guess I'll have to show them the egg she laid today.

Yes, I only sprinkle the Amdro outside the area I can keep the chickens in. The ants will take it back to where ever the queen is and no more ants.

Is there anyone near Mesa that knows how to capon a young roo of about 3 to 4 months old? I have 10 boys that would like to go to freezer camp, but would like to try to capon them.
IF anyone can help me maybe a small fee to show/help me could be thrown in there.

Please pm me thanks..
