Arizona Chickens

Memorial Day always reminds me of a story my Dad used to tell.. As most of you know, my Dad was a half-track
driver in an antiaircraft unit in Patton's army.. He had a friend named Frenchy, and every time they pulled
into a french town, Frenchy would sneak off and steal eggs from the farm houses, (he loved fresh eggs).. One
night, he came back with two chickens under his arms, saying "The little b*****ds wouldn't lay, so I brought
them along".. Dad tried to explain to him about chickens, but he would only say "I don't care what kinda
chickens they are, if they won't lay, I'll eat em".. So, that night, they cooked those ROOSTERS for dinner...

Shortly after that their half-track was bazookaed in an ambush, and Dad was injured too badly to walk, and
when the Germans captured them, Frenchy was one of the two guys who helped carry him.. He said" You sure are
a lot heavier than them roosters.".. Dad said, " Good thing we don't have that pot any more".. They were
rescued on their way to the POW camp, and Dad got sent home.. He survived the war, but sadly, Frenchy didn't..
He died just outside Berlin, three days before the war ended...

Good story, thanks for sharing that!

Nah, I don't think it cures them. If you are talking about MS or MG, I think it is more of an opportunistic bug. Remains there under the surface and pops it's ugly head when the Chooks immune system is vulnerable. If I understand it correctly, not all chickens become carriers......just some. We had a scare a couple of years ago and I did some research. One of the research sites had done some studies and most of the infected chickens did NOT show positive later. Maybe 1 or 2 years later?? Not sure, If I come across the link again I will post it. When my chickens swabbed negative I quit collecting info.

I'm curious about the swabbing thing. Did you take them to the vet or do it your self? Is there such a thing as a DIY kit? It would be great to be able to test birds at the first sign of something to know if they needed medicine and what kind.

Hope everyone is enjoying the amazing weather and having a great weekend! I am so bummed out! I seem to have lost all of the pics on my camera. I have no idea what happened but they just seem to be totally gone. Anybody have any camera experience or know of a good place to take it to try to see if anything can be recovered? Thanks in advance and please stay safe!

What kind of camera ? Does it have a card or just internal memory ?

I'm dreading the summer.

Rufus told me I needed to turn on my AC at least every few weeks to keep my unit running good.

I did that and it's not working... I'll call an AC guy to see if he services the smaller units, if he doesn't I'll have to buy another one. I don't want chickens plopping over all summer long.

I'll be saying goodbye to two EEs and 3 Icelandic roos this week.

I still haven't sold my Red Sussex pair, I'm just lazy I guess, but DW said she heard a crow this morning so it might have been him as I watched him do the deed with an Ameraucana hen this week. He hatched Dec. 11th, do you think he'd be fertile this soon?

On those Chinese units like Haier you probably should run it a little every day. You don't want the seals to dry out and you sure don't want the oil logging in the condenser.

I see them for sale so cheap now. They can't even cover the cost of shipping from China. Now if that isn't dumping, what is?

Good luck with the unit.

Good timely story. One of my son in laws is out of the army but I believe he is on reserve status and my son will graduate boot in June.

Thank you to and God bless all of our active duty and our Vets!

I know it's not chicken related but...

Spent the afternoon fabricating an aluminum winch mount for a riding buddy.

He is a 30 year aerospace engineer and did the calculations to make sure this silly thing isn't going to twist it self apart.

This is just a mock up. I have to get the high grade hardware and some specialty welding stuff on Tuesday when everything opens back up.
