Arizona Chickens

Quote: Chicken genetics are pretty complicated compared to many other animals, and all the genes carried in a bird go into determining what it looks like.

I totally second that!! I have been reading about Genetics trying to absorb a little basic knowledge and every time I think I understand something, the next bit of info I read blows everything.

Don't have a clue how this little guy happened. I had a Wheaten Ameraucana Roo over a Wheaten/Salmon ish colored EE. Guess that EE was harboring some odd ball genes.

Nope, both parents are carrying a copy of recessive white. That one is pretty simple :)

Simple for you!!

Thanks for the info....looks like my Wheaten Roo isn't as Wheaten as he was supposed to be!! I am not surprised. His hatchmates were all re-homed as EEs for various other faults.

Amalthea, (the unicorns human name from the cartoon movie, The Last Unicorn) my silver laced wyandotte (Ideal hatchery stock) and her "unicorn" style horn. How odd.

Had an eventful evening. Had a BBQ/pool party at a friends house. One of the kids were playing by the pool and fell in. He didn't know how to swim, so I jumped in and saved him. A party attendee insisted on bringing her dog. She swore up and down that it wouldn't hurt the chickens (not mine, the lady who was hosting the pool party/BBQ). The dog wouldn't hurt a fly! Well, the dog promptly made her eat her words by running over to the nearest chicken and attacking it. /facepalm If I had a penny for every time a dog owner claimed their dog wouldn't harm a thing...I would be rich

There is something beautiful about having two happy and healthy children sleeping soundly, an emotionally moving movie playing quietly, crocheting a blanket, and a happy and healthy flock sleeping soundly outside. The sprinklers are watering my grass, garden, flowers, and trees. My kitty cats are lazily draped over the tops of my couches. I am eating a plate of eggs collected today. Simply delightful. These things are around me this night, I can't help but be thankful for the beautiful life that I have.

Aww, Nova, that is so nice!

Ok experts...what is this? A squash or gourd and what do I do with it? Was it ready to pick? I don't know much about either.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Is it maybe this?? Not sure but the coloration and shape is kinda similar and makes me think you picked a young version of a cushaw? I'll be interested to see how it is if you eat it? (thinking maybe like a zucchini or yellow squash??)

Oh, and I am definitely not an expert in any way, shape or form....I was just curious and searched for it
