Arizona Chickens

Quote:
I have 2 Easter Eggers and 2 Brahmas. A Light Brahma and a Buff Brahma. Although they mature later because they are a large breed, so far they have been great layers for me. I get on average 6 eggs a week from my Brahmas. Only a couple less eggs a month than from my EE'ers. The EE'ers are great too and they also do ok in the heat. I use misters though and on the really hot days I put an ice block in their coop for them to sit and stand on and around
I just want 2 nice chickens who aren't excessively noisy and at least lay a few eggs a month. would it be okay to get 2 different breeds? I think I like the look and description of personality of Brahmas the best but would like to have 2 different types

HI everyone. Its been ages since I have been on BYC.. totally miss it. going crazy at home with everything here..

But I am here to post some animals for sale and ask question.

Question: I need a supplier of quail eggs, fresh, and 4+ dozen to eat on a constant basis. Preferably not fertile, but can work with that. Not too expensive preferably. My mom has osteoperosis and she red that it is good for several health issues. I live in Mesa if any one of you want to help us out with this that would be great.

I NEED to sell some animals going into over load with my mom and we need to cut back. I have several roosters that need to go. I have some white, black, partridge, maybe paint is silkies. HAd them shipped in from Geri Godina here on BYC. So very good blood lines. I have some bantam light brahma chicks for sell as well, and a few buff bantam brahma roosters for sale or they will be going to freezer camp soon. I also have some mini rex rabbits and a pair of breeding NZ rabbits, doe should be pregnant. i have a lynx doe that was bred to a chocolate buck & due on Aug 15. have a jr. lilac buck, jr. blue doe, and a chocolate pair. most are pedigreed.. Need room FAST...

So if interested just send a PM as I am not always on BYC.

Am willing to trade also...

I have often told a story about right after I moved here, I am a hobbiest in satellite TV, I have several satellite dishes on our property, three ten footers, (C Band) and several four foot (KU Band) and even several smaller dishes, all pointing in different directions. Right after I got the first several dishes "planted" and working, I had one of those "over the fence" type conversations with a neighbor, who asked what all the dishes were for. Being a smart @$$ I glibly answered "They help me keep in touch with the Mother Ship."

I watched him pull his head down into his shoulders as he backed away from the fence and mutter something about having to "go mow the grass."

Love it Phottoman!

As part of his birthday present I'm letting my crazy, perpetually broody Ameraucana sit on some eggs. My son REALLY wants more chicks and begged me to let her have some eggs. We still have the Black Orpington Roo so the eggs should be fertile. I wasn't sure about letting her sit in this heat, but it looks like she is going to sit regardless if she has eggs or not, so there we are. Oh, and DS1 named the rooster 'Dinner'.

Happy birthday to DS1!

He must really like chickens!

Hi everyone! I just wanted to let you know, a BYC buddy from NM may be traveling here soon and she has extra Swedish Flower roosters that need to be re-homed. I'm waiting for pics!

If you have purebred hens this could be a great chance to get a new or different bloodline, or if you want to start breeding, I have a similar type chicken I've been working on for years. I crossed the two strains together, and the chicks look very much like purebreds! (There are some with pink legs, but otherwise, it's a match.) I was trying to create a "Swedish Type" mottled chicken before they were in the US, so these crossbreds will have a lot of the same look but with better genetic diversity. Best of all, while the Swedish sell for $30 a chick at Greenfire, if you live in AZ and want to start a breeding program, I can supply you with some nice eggs or newborn chicks this fall. Here's my blog that shows some photos of the half-Swedish chicks:

Best of all, I'd be willing to supply the Aloha chicks at a very very very low price to safe local breeding homes, because so few are in existence and we desperately need breeding flocks.

Yes, these are HALF Swedish! Hard to tell the difference, huh? (That's kind of the idea, LOL!)

So drop a line if you're a Swedish Flower fan! Either enjoy a pretty roo in your yard, or start a flock of Arizona's own version. I'll also have plenty of half-Swedish roos to rehome soon. (Some of the babies shown here.)

But you don't need to be a breeder to get an extra Swedish rooster . . . she's also just looking for good pet homes.

Thank you!

Just got through doing my second bumblefoot surgery this afternoon. I must say, the first time I did it, my novice experience was painfully evident. This time? HUGE SUCCESS!!! I cut out the plug, made two cuts on each side of the plug hole to open up the foot, then squeezed. Out popped this big ol' thing! POP! Out like a giant pimple! YAY!!
