Arizona Chickens

Just stopping in to say hello. We are in Wittmann. We have a 4 acre farm with a herd of 28 Arabian Horses, 4 Peafowl babies, 1 very happy Guinea, 1 hen Aracauna, and 25 very quickly growing youngens'. Very new to this bird part of farming, but we are very excited to learn lots.

AAAAAND!.....my daughter knocked the egg carton out of the fridge when putting her home made play dough into the fridge. The carton had our first and only duck egg inside it. SPLAT! /sigh. Ah well. Good thing Khaki Cambells lay almost every day! One day, I will try a duck egg!

I need some advice. I have 3 chicks we are estimating that they are about 6 weeks old. When can I put them outside in there coup? I know it's suppose to be 112 this week. Any advice on this? The chicks almost have all of there feathers except for around there neck. Thanks for your help

Oh, also, the reason I am so super excited about our very first duck egg from Cylo, is because no one in my family (other then my father) has ever had a duck egg before! I am super excited to see how it tastes!

ducks eggs do taste different.. For some reason if you not like them just use them
In baked goods... That is what we do... Enjoy...

Well, for starters, it would be nice to know where you got the 110 advice--so that you can avoid ALL of their advice.  If they are that far off in temperature, I worry about what else they would say to do/not do.  Quarantine for more than a few days.  At least two weeks, even a month.  I'd suggest adding a prophylactic dose of antibiotic to their water: probably denagard.

Thank you for that advice with the water.. Here is what I have;
*Permethrin prozap.. Dust just I case, have not used it yet..
*Cocci-rid I put that in 1 teaspoon in a pound of their food for two weeks..
They have already finished that..
*vitamins & electrolytes, in their H20

* duramycin-10, have not used it yet.. I bought stuff just in case..
Once I am at the feed store I stock up.. & if any of our neighbors
need it we will have it on hand.. do you think I might
need something else?
Our silkies are finnaly getting their "cotton balls" on their
bottom.. If one end up being a roo I hope that he is a quite roo.
None of the girls have went up stairs to the "penthouse" to sleep
yet.. Our boys put them up there the other day. It might be to hot up there?

We have goats, chickens and turkeys. One mustang, dogs and cats on 2 acre rental.
Your horses are so beautiful they make me hurt to look at! You just have to invite us over to see them!

Pigeons and doves carry a number of things that can adversely impact chickens. I'd do what I could to discourage them from intermingling with the chickens.

Any ideas? My girls won't be free to roam because of HOA but the coop is not air tight but any means. We've tried getting rid of the things but they are determined pests.
