Oh boy, wild birds. I wondered how specific they were, I guess not too much. Your roost system sounds awesome.

The joists hangers will work work on the studs as well. I found it difficult to clean the roosts when attached to the wall. So easy now to lift out and scrub and hose it down.

Building the coop....so nice and clean! Chicken math set in and had to make longer roosts! :)

changed to no poop roost as it is easier to just scoop the sand in the morning (1st picture)

a while back I was look at a old forum...
Who ever posted it took photos of the little buggers...
Awful... To get rid of if it is the same.. I believe
It was Gallo del cielo that had the photos..and
explanation of there habitat... I did look for it, but
have not had time to be on like I did before..
Hope you figure it out..

No, it wasn't me. Thankfully, we've not yet had mites here. Although the red chicken mite does have a behavioral pattern much like the ticks that infested my birds. They hide in the cracks around the roosts during the day and feed on the birds right after sunset. That's why removable roosts like Mama Hen Chris' are so cool. Few access points by the parasites and easily inspected and cleaned. Pretty luxurious for the chicken tender.

Quote: Nope it didn't look anything like that on the little cock. The bugs were red and seemed longer in the body then the pictures I have seen on line. The bugs also had a rather lacy look on the back like tiny wings but not quite. I guess red mites can come in differant looks. Oh, and the skin was clean on the bird just had these bugs crawling on him. I have not seen a thing on the other chicks. I hope I don't!

I do have to show off your coop to all of my clients..
I show the one where one of your hens is coming out and the
back groung is painted with a barn and chickens.. Plus their
entrance with the striped curtains... Everyone totally loves it..
Thank you for sharing your great ideas...

Ticks or mites I fell so sad for anyone that has to go through it!
You did such a great job of explaining what you did with photos..
We have been checking our girls everyday.. Not at night so yet..
Did you check at night? I forget what you said on the earlier post..

Fun chicken photos:

Fridays with "Chickma" and Cooper. I have been demoted to second best now as Cooper (16 months old) wants to see the chickens when he arrives in the morning. He loves his "bok bok's"
