Arizona Chickens

Well, if I can keep Drekki Jr (my gorgeous Icelandic Roo) until January 12th, I'm going to try and do an Icelandic Hatch. I'll save all of my Icelandic eggs for two weeks and see what I end up with... I imagine I'll just use my Brinsea unless I have some Blue Wheaten eggs to hatch and then I'll add them.

I also did the Ornamental Layer Collection Order from McMurray to arrive on February 4th so it should be fun.

"We are now offering a special combination of chicks from our Rarest of Rare Assortment and Top Hat Special which will be FEMALE BABY CHICKS! Nothing like this is available anywhere else in the world! Imagine buying such things as Cochins, Campines, Red Caps, the exotic Polish varieties, and many many more in pullets only. Best of all: you can buy this ORNAMENTAL LAYER COLLECTION and save money! We are putting a special price on these female baby chicks much lower than what you'd have to pay to get them individually. We guarantee you at least 8 different kinds in each order of 25. If you are short of space, or don't like to hear roosters crowing but still want the most unusual of the world's exotic poultry breeds, try our ORNAMENTAL LAYER COLLECTION.s early as possible."

I imagine I'll end up selling the half of them that I don't want to keep and being 'rare breeds' I should be able to sell them easily.

With the 20 hens I have now, I'm only getting about 35 eggs a week. I don't know what to do to get them to start laying. Got 7 today, but 7 Mon & Tues. So 14 so far this week. (3 days)

My Icelandics are the best layers... of course I have more of them than any other breed.

I checked my email this morning and found my inbox full of pm notices of questions about raising mealworms and notices of comments being left on my mealworm page. I thought, "what the heck is going on?" I usually get a couple a week but something definitely changed. Then, when I logged on to BYC I noticed that my mealworm page is featured on the front page of BYC! The power of that to drive traffic is quite amazing.

When Nifty put this pic of my eggs on the front page, I was inundated with PMs and requests for hatching eggs...

... and by then all of my good roos were gone.

Well, not all the finishing touches are on it but at last the chicks I hatched are home. They had incredible "foster parents" but so glad I finally have them with me !!!!

In the beginning

Coco: "Mommy, when are you going to pay attention to me?"

Grandson making sure the wooden "inspiration eggs" are in the right place

Hey Hey The Gangs All HERE !!!

"It's green. I'm not putting that in my mouth"

Gotta love a grandson who likes sitting in a chicken coop with his grandma

Bookcase left here when I moved in. Now a nesting box. This is going to be put on it's side and the roost is going to be much higher

Coco: "If I ignore them they will just go away"

SFH roo admitting defeat to the EO roo

Well done SherrieT!

I especially like that you can stand up inside, it looks very spacious. I just love the look on Coco too. Did you end up using the re-mesh or cattle panels?

Hello,

I live in east Mesa, we have 62 by 120 foot lot. I emailed the city who sent the restrictions of ....for a coop it must be 75 feet from your neighbors house or for an enclosure 40 feet.

Is the city of mesa code compliant group vigilant? With those restrictions its not possible for us to have chickens. We used to live in Maine where we had a nice coop and raised layers and meat birds. Its a great feeling to go out in the morning, reach into the straw and pull out a nice big egg.

Thanks, Paul
