Arizona Chickens

Hi all, maybe someone already posted this, I can't keep up with this thread. If so, here it is again:
POULTRY SHOW THIS COMING WEEKEND!!

The Tucson Poultry, Pigeon and Fancy Fowl Club is holding their 42nd annual Winter Show this Saturday and Sunday, November 17-18, at the Pima Country Fairgrounds, Thurber Hall.

If you have never seen poultry other than from a commercial hatchery, come on down and see quality birds! WOW what a difference!
There will about 1000 birds entered. Admission is FREE. Parking is FREE. There will be many raffle items, including a quilt, cage, and bird raffle. On Sunday a 4’ X 6’ steel framed wire cage with door and latch will be raffled off. This cage can be taken apart and transported. There will be some birds for sale at the show. And a bake sale.

Saturday judging begins at 9:00 am; junior activities 10:00 am; closing 5:30 pm.
Sunday hours 7:00 am to 1:00 pm. Junior Show at 8:00 am, Awards Ceremony at 10:00 am, Grand Raffle at 11:00 am

I'll have a bunch of my birds entered. Hope to see you there!
Good luck! :) Wish we could come, but major yard sale...

Maybe I will take a trip to Tucson next weekend for the show! What is the best day to go if you are looking to buy a bird?

I imagine Saturday. I don't know how many sales birds will be there. I'm not taking any to sell although I do have birds for sale. I just don't have enough room in my truck for all the birds to show not counting sale birds. The club is charging a $5 per bird pen fee for sale birds, that might deter people from bringing them. Pay $5 and not know if it is going to sell....Most of my extras right now are cockerels---I have show quality Barred Rocks (Good Shepard line) and German New Hampshires. These are 7 months old now, about time for me to decide which ones to keep. I do have a few Black Copper Marans pullets, not show quality, and a couple of Blue Copper Marans cockerels to sell or butcher as well.

While I cancelled my Ornamental Layer's Collection from McMurray in Feb., I just ordered the Top Hat Collection from Ideal... price was too good to pass up...

so eventually I'll have some extra birds for sale.... I just have to grow them out a bit to decide which one's I'll keep. Out of the 30, I imagine I'll keep 6 or less. Let me know if you'll be interested... down the line... of course 15 should be roos....

I need to post pictures of the Olive Eggers that notinoz hatched for me. ALL FIVE of them are starting to get pink on their combs.

How are the chickens ? Did they learn to use their roosts yet ?

Sort of. They will stay on their roost if put there but have really taken to roosting on top of the nesting boxes. We are getting ready to add an inner coop because we have 7 pullets in the brooder going outside in just a couple of weeks and I really don't want to worry about them being cold.

How the world is not running full of roosters I have no idea. Seems for every 5 eggs I hatch 4 are roosters

it would be fine except for I don't have the stomach to process my own birds for meat.

It is just so difficult to pass up a good deal on chicks.
