Thanks! The hen that produced this chick is one of my oldest birds. Unfortunately her eggs are unlikely to be viable for hatching much longer, she is over 3 years old now and starting laying eggs very early in life. I will keep her as long as she lives though because she is all around my best hen and started me on my project. Maybe every so often I can hatch some of her eggs like after a molt or early spring.Super pretty ! connect those parent birds again next year !![]()
I don't know what it is about the splash, but all of the ones I had were much flightier than the blues and blacks. The only other splash birds I ever raised were splash Marans and all of that breed I ever raised were super calm. Only milder tempered I had were my RI's from Jim Heinz & my Coronation Sussex.I have one little roo that is quite a bit darker than the others. Looks like I got 6 pullets and 6 cockerels. I am going to cut down to 3 cockerels this weekend. Metalla, I got one little blue cockerel from the eggs I got from you, just what I was looking for! I'll reevaluate the boys in the spring for the breeder. I will keep 3 blue boys, the splash are very light colored, very flighty, and I want to breed back to darker stock.
