Arkansas folks speak up.........

If it were me I'd run an extension cord anyway, just for the coldest nights. Roll it back up and who's gonna know???
Honestly with a good coop out of the wind they will be just FINE!
If you have holes big enough to put phone books in then I would be more concerned about predators getting in!!!! In cold weather the preds are sometimes more "desperate" Be sure to secure any holes with hardware cloth to keep the preds out!

Black dots might be scabs from pecking. Frostbite is more likely to start on the pointy tips of the comb.

Well the Code officer next door might. He does not approve of them. But he can't do anything about it because I have abided by all codes. The holes were not big enough to put a whole phone book in- just little cracks that I stuffed a page into! They are hardwired up and the coons in our neighboorhood are more interested in the trash than the coop. Im not taking any chances though! I wonder if I might take some old carpet and nail it to the 2x4 roosts? I wonder if that would help keep thier feet warm (except for gladys who still insist on sleeping in the nest box).

Here's something eles I've been wondering about- I got a little EE pullet from Amanda back in November. Ginger is still the same size she was back then and is 20 weeks old now. She's half the size of the other grown birds. Could she be a banty or will she sprout like a weed sooner or later?

Ridgerunner, I wish my run was that big. Heck, I wish I could have more than 4 chickens!

Thanks. I had the room so I built it. I think it is big enough for a broody to raise chicks in if one will go broody.

I'd think the carpet would get full of poo. Might be real hard to clean off. I don't think I'd try it, but then I used tree branches from last year's ice storm for roosts. They seem to like them.

Spent the day sorting chickens....

Put all the hens and pullets (OEGB)(Crele) in with the rooster, Rusty. Getting ready for the chick season. Some hens are laying now. Can't wait for lots of chicks.
I have 5 Marans hens in their pen with nest boxes all clean. They are in with 3 OEGB hens (bbRed). I just not sure what to do with them. And of course a young cockrel OEGB. I'm sure he will be in the way soon.

I did the same thing last week! I'll have BO's, cuckoo marans and EE's to sell. I'm going to wait 2 weeks then start collecting eggs to hatch. I really can t wait for warmer weather. I got my first seed catalog yesterday. I am dreaming of fuzzy chicks and gardening.

Sandhill Preservation has Dun Laced Wyandotte bantams. Other than that, I don't know of any dun chickens. I think they are beautiful, too!

Yay!!! Three of my molters laid me an egg today! Two EE and one of my four buff orpingtons. Four eggs by lunch time today. Hopefully at least 2 or 3 more when I check this evening.
