We have 4 new chicks! Our local store accidentally received chicks in addition to the guineas they ordered so I thought I'd help them out and buy some of them.
Our other chicks are 3 months old now (they seem so much older though) and a few of the Buffs have gotten rather pushy with each other. Does that mean they might be males? They have squared off with each other a few times that I've noticed and wasn't sure what it meant...

They could be, but even the pulleys play fight some. Do they have redder, larger combs than others?
Well, I'm such a newbie that I don't know what is female and male - it seems like all 3 Buffs have noticeable, red combs. I wish I could get a good picture to provide!
Does anyone have turkeys (or a turkey) living alongside their chickens? A coworker offered me a turkey or two and said they're a friendly breed that he keeps alongside his chickens, so I wondered how common that is.
I hatched my first turkey about 5 weeks ago. I'm raising it with chicks. I can't give a real experienced answer on how they do together, but they are OK so far.
One thing you will probably hear is a warning about blackhead. That is a disease that can affect chickens and turkeys. It is usually fatal to turkeys but chickens are usually not affected much by it, although they can be carriers. If you do not have blackhead in your flock, it is not a problem. Most flocks do not have blackhead.
Post photos and we will all be happy to see if we can help tell them apart. You said they are Buffs. Buff what? Wyandotte, Orpington, Cochin....there are a lot of Buff colored chickens. Almost every breed has a buff color.
As for turkeys and chickens. You will want to worm with Wazine. This kills cecal works that cause Blackhead. We have no problems raising turkeys with chickens. If you get two, try to get a tom and a hen so you can hatch their eggs!
