Arkansas folks speak up.........

Does anyone have any Polish/Frizzles? I would love to watch those beauties roam around. I have heard there is a lady in Towntytown who has some Polish, but she never got back to me.

BTW, I just found this thread!" Howdy yall!", from Fayetteville!:cd
(I love waaaaay out in the country, but it is still a Fayetteville address.)  I happened into this forum when yall were discussing the 7 chicken law.  I can see it, for in towners, but who the hell would pass it for countryes folks? (If they DID include us...don't know myself.)  The laws that Ridgerider posted states that only hatcheries, and wholesalers can sell a certain number of eggs/chickens? Really? Sounds like it was written to keep the little farmers from doing any business. We can GIVE them away but can't sell them,,seriously!  What is going on!
I moved to Arkansas because I loved the beauty. I moved to the country because I wanted to have more freedom!  Now I hear that folks are passing laws that prohibit me from being an 'old country farmer', in the very since of the words.  What is wrong with those city slickers that they want to mess with the foundation of our wonderful state? AKA our country life?
Sorry for the rant. I just needed to vent. Don't mean this directed at anyone...but the politicians, and those who are willing to go to a city meeting and let our law makers know how we feel, so we can keep our freedom.
BTW, does anyone know the laws for selling eggs at the farmers market?

I'm so proud to be a part of your group. I just love my chickens and their beautifuly colored eggs.

I have Amaracanas, Marans, and now hopefully some olive-eggers. The O.E's are too young to lay yet, so I am just holding my breath in hopes of some beautiful eggs.:fl

So glad to meet my chicken loven neighbors! Happy Spring!:celebrate

Hello, and welcome to BYC's and to the Arkansas thread. From Mablevale.

Are you outside the city limits? If so, I'd check to make sure but I don't think the city jaws can be applied to you.

As far as the farmers markets go you'd have to check with each individual one as to their rules.

The rule in Arkansas is you can have up to 199 hens and be a hobby, once you reach number 200 and higher you are considered a business.

Welcome from the Prairie Grove area. Glad you found us.

I could not find any post of seven laws by Ridgerider in this thread or on this forum. Could you give a link to that post so we can see what you are talking about? If you are living outside city limits and not in an HOA that just doesn’t sound right but I’d like to see the post so I can maybe understand it.

Different Farmer’s Markets have different rules. The one in Fayetteville is fairly restrictive, they tell you how much you can charge and other things. But there are other Farmer’s Markets around with different rules and different ways they operate. To find out what the rules are you need to contact the people running that specific Farmer’s Market. You might want to shop around for a Farmer’s Market that suits you better.

The State has some health rules for selling things too but a lot of those have limits like Draye said. If you are below those limits the rules may not apply to you. Way I understand it the Fayetteville Farmer’s Market requires everyone to follow state laws regardless of the size of their operation.
