I'm looking for silkie hens/pullets. Don't have to be show quality...just think they are so cute! I would prefer to not drive a long distance...in or around Batesville~around 30-45 miles out?? Thanks!!!
Hello andI'm new to BYC and I'm in Clarksville.
I'm new to BYC and I'm in Clarksville.
chicks would be fine, but i wouldn't have anyway to keep them warm or be able to keep them with my big girls/boys. ive never raised thru winter, only when it was still cool in early spring. that's where we lost our silkies...the cold. my daughter wouldn't be able to deal with anymore chicken loss. that's why i wanted started pullets, even if they weren't sexed and we ended up with roos-we would deal with it. i just need to downsize the roos we have now, and i told her that if she got rid of some of her roos i would get her some more hens. she really wants silkies...i wouldn't have a problem to come and get them...i just can't find anyone that has any????? my daughter just loves her chickies, she was so heartbroken when hers died...thanks!Well I live in Lonoke and have never been there LOL I will hollar atcha if I go.
Oh I didn't mean to say they weren't reputable just because the birds waited so long to lay, I agree with you. I say that because they were my very first chickens and I didn't really know what to look for in a bird. If I knew what I do now I would never have purchased them because they were obviously sick and more than half died. I'm afraid she knew I was a 'new egg' and didn't tell me on purpose...I got some Buff Orps from Cackle a few years back. One of them laid at 18 weeks. The others weren't too far behind.
I also got some designer chicken eggs from a breeder and hatched them April 2 this year. The first one laid at 30 weeks and I'm still waiting on the other four to start. I don't call her disreputable though because she was breeding to the SOP, not for egg laying. When you deal with a breeder you need to know what they are breeding for. And I agree some are more reputable than others.
