Welcome Sara Beth!!

Scot and Ninja there is a fruit and veggie store in Benton where the guy buys as much as possible from local farms. I'm not sure if it's organic but he does support the local farmers.

I through myself with some of the people from Riceland who sell soybean meal but not to the local farmers only sells it in bulk to large companies.

Have you found anywhere that sell feed in bulk? I can't find it around this area. The farmer's Assoc. only sells 50 lbs bags of feed.

Howdy Sarabeth!

Jackie - Lots of feed stores we used to have in the Little Rock area (I am using the term loosely) are now closed. The one that was in downtown North Little Rock sold in bulk, but they closed down. Not sure what is happening, but I guess they are just not able to make it in this day and age. I don't know of anywhere else to get bulk feed larger than 50lbs bag. Thanks for the tip on the place in Benton for local stuff. I am down there frequently visiting my Grandmother, I will be checking it out.

Ninja - thanks for the queso offer, but we get around plenty up there, so I can pick it up if we need it. We really should have an Arkansas folks get together sometime. It would be fun.

You can still buy in bulk from Caldwell, in Rosebud, I'm pretty sure. They also stock a full complement of Purina products, which are tough to find in our immediately local area.

Next year, the old Prime Quality mill will be used by Foodshed Farms as a comprehensive local food market and co-op. Prime Quality feeds are certainly still available, so I'm not sure why the NLR mill was closed.

Not sure either. I know a larger company purchased the Prime Quality brand. After that it was just a few months until they shut down the North Little Rock mill and feed store. Where the feed store front entrance was on Broadway there is now a furniture store and a police substation.

There is a boarding/training stable near here that buys whole oats in bulk, and they are delivered in a big tanker-type truck, and fed via auger into a storage silo at the barn. I wonder who the supplier is?

It was Cargill who is based in Minnesota who bought Prime Quality. They shut down the plant in NLR since they had one in Mississippi. Sounds like they bought the competition and are just using the name to fool consumers into thinking they are still getting the same feed.
