Arkansas folks speak up.........

I do have a forced air unit, that is kind of what they looked like, they had very few feathers though. I chipped off from the big end and the air cavity was huge then the chick vacuum packed in the membrane. I'm buying a hygrometer and am going to test my unit in all the areas. Sure is frustrating. All of them made it to that stage. I have 24 more to start ASAP along with two red bourbons, so I want it fixed by then.

I have barnyard mixed eggs available, will have chicks around the 15th of April. Right now I have girl scout cookies ready to go. I have all the different kinds.

$12.00 a dozen (eggs) + $20.00 shipping
$3.00 a chick + $20.00 shipping

I went into tractor supply over the weekend and couldn't resist taking a look at there chicks. They had a sign posted stating that they could only sell a minimum of 6 chicks and 6 ducks to each customer (you couldn't combine the 2 species to make 6) according to a new state law. I know if you live within the city of Bentonville you are only allowed to own a maximum of 3 chickens. I live in the county so this rule doesn't affect me. I just want to know where they came up with the arbitrary number of "6." Wouldn't it make more sense if the customer could only buy a maximum of 3? Where did six come from. I talked to one of the employees and he said they are having trouble selling their chicks because of this new law. Yet I was able to buy 3 chicks at a local store also within Benton County and of course the state of Arkansas. I am so confused! Does anyone know anything about this new chicken law?

Its not actually a law, so says my local feed store. They told me that big companies say that to make you buy more chicks. And I'm sure it helps to cover the expense of ppl loosing chicks and the cost to ship. I haven't had huge success buying from TSC. But the ones I bought from the co op did wonderfully.

It is actually a law in Arkansas. Not sure but I think it was intended to prevent the "easter chicken" syndrome which is responsible for a lot of unhappy chickens. As a breeder and raiser of chickens, I can sell as few as I deem appropriate. However, stores etc which are only sellers must sell a minimum of six. Jim Hall posted copy of the legislation somewhere the other day, maybe I can find it.

Interesting. I didn’t know it was a state law in Arkansas. Tractor Supply made that a company policy a couple of years ago for that reason, the Easter chick syndrome. It helps reduce people buying one or two chicks on the spur of the moment without having any idea how to care for them. Or as gifts to kids that can’t care for them.

It really caused an uproar on this forum when it went into effect.

Something else you’ll see on the forum soon is posts about how to dye the down on those colored Easter chicks.
